Worried about what will happen to Frankie

I have been sick and might go into the hospital. I have no one to take care of Frankie and I'm so upset and worried what will happen to him. Does anyone have a suggestion?

I'm sorry you are going through this and I wish you a speedy recovery.
I guess when thinking about what to do, it depends on whether this is long-term or short term, and whether it impacts your ability to care for him outside of the hospital.

If you will only be away for a week or 2, you could potentially board him...Do you know anyone within a few hours of you? I once drove mine 5 hours to stay with my parents for 3 days (because they were the only ones who knew about Teflon, the dangers of cleaners, perfumes etc)..I could have boarded her at the vet, but that stresses me out for other reasons.

So sorry to hear you are unwell, please get better and avoid the hospital.

Do you have any trusted friends or neighbors who can check on Frankie and provide the basics of food and water? If not, perhaps boarding as suggested by noodles123?

Might the local humane society have a solution such as short-term respite care for Frankie in your absence?

Potential but riskier solution - any bird clubs in your area? A trustworthy member might offer to "board" Frankie with strict quarantine.

Lastly, if your anticipated hospitalization is short, providing sufficient food and water for 2 to possibly 3 days is possible. You'd have to weigh the risks of extended stay and have a fall-back procedure should you be absent longer.

Good luck, hope this is nothing more than good planning!

Not sure about the length of stay but probably only a week at the most. I have no friends that could watch him for me. I've never thought of boarding at a vet's office. Thank you for that suggestion. I'll look into it.

DO try to find a bird vet, as the rest of them sometimes lack knowledge in terms of what is safe for cleaning, disease etc.
