Hi I am new and also quite a new parrot owner. I'm a bit concerned about Gordon bennetts feathers. About 2 months ago he had lots of pin feathers coming through on his head but didnt notice any drop off. Now he will be coming up to a year and all his other feathers se really scruffy. I could only attach one photo as it wouldn't work on my phone. It's not as obvious when he is not preening but he is no longer smooth like he used to be at the bottom of the feathers are the scruffiest. I have also noticed the tips of his tail feathers have turned yellow? Today he had been a bit quieter but then he usually spends the day shrieking so when he doesn't I worry. Maybe he is being good for Santa? I also noticed him fall asleep in his cage at about 5 on I have never seen him
Sleep in the day before but then i do work so he could have alrwady been to sleep he is a quaker parrot is this normal

Thank you :green2:

I don't see anything to be concerned about. Birds molt because their feathers don't last forever, they wear out from use.
It's 2:45pm here and 3 of my 5 birds have their heads tucked in for a nap, the others look like they're ready to do the same thing. Daytime napping is completely normal and expected.

I don't see anything to be concerned about either but do keep an eye on him if he seems to be overly tired and puffy constantly. When babies are young they're rough on their feathers and tend to frey them and such. They do sleep during the day, you probably just never noticed.

With my parrot, I also notice a direct corrolation between how much he sleeps during the day and how well he slept the night before. He sometimes gets night frights and then is awake for about two hours. When this happens, I know he will be very sleepy and quiet the next day.

Percy is also very rough on his feathers, especially the tail and wing tips! He is 5 so it is not baby-ness, he's just a rough player. Sometimes, I worry that he might break a wing or something from the way he carries on with his hanging toys LOL! Could this be your bird's problem too?

His feathers look fine to me, and I don't really see any yellow tint

Mid-day naps are pretty normal- at least in my house lol my birds take naps the same time my son does, so it's just our schedule :)
