Buddy - green cheek conure; Luna - yellow crowned amazon; Bella - miniature dachshund; Schatzie - affenpinscher; RIP Boudreaux - timneh african grey
So, since we adopted Buddy two weeks ago I KNEW I wanted to make him a stand alone playgym. I need to put different toys on here (these were just put on there....basically just because I had them, but they came with him and are old so I need to put new toys on this weekend). Anyhoo....pvc and vet wrap are my FAVORITE! And since he's small enough (a GCC) I was able to find an "organizing" bin at Target for $7 for the litter pan underneath the gym. Take the playgym out, dump the litter, wash, refill....easy peasy!!!!

I like things for my pets bright and colorful....I think it's more fun that way. So, hubby ordered the 30 pk of vet wrap on Amazon in multiple colors and I went to town. LOL

He went on it IMMEDIATELY. I was kind of afraid he would be scared to death of it, but he LOVED it. He stepped up to hubby when hubby came over to him, but he didn't really want to....he stepped right back down onto the playgym. LOL

Here it is!!!!

Yep - I did just "wing it". LOL I actually stood in the pvc pipe aisle at Menards trying to figure out what I wanted to do. LOL - my suggestion would be to have a solid plan before you go in. Or you'll get frustrated like I did. I finally said....enough is enough and grabbed some stuff I thought I could use and went home and tried to build. I ended up putting it together and taking it apart about 378943789 times. A solid plan would've made me much happier. LOL But I am super happy with the end product. So I guess that's the important part!

how much did you end up paying in total? i think our baby would love to be able to hang out and play closer to where we are if he can't be ON us haha.

Great job!! Yes, draw it out first before shopping, you'll end up going back to the store otherwise (or over/under buying parts)Then there's the old saying "measure twice, cut once". I was in construction for many years, I'm lucky I can build what I want pretty much want to. And it makes you feel so good knowing you did it yourself. :)

Thanks guys/gals. :)

Taylor - I spent $7 on the litter tub (organizational tote at Target), $1 at goodwill for the small stand that I was lazy and covered with $4 worth of purple duct tape. :D I think probably $18 on pvc and elbows/couplers. The vet tape was $28 and change with free shipping through Amazon Prime, but it was for 30 rolls and about 6 colors. I think I went through 6 rolls, so I have plenty left for more stands or for redos, etc.

that is so great! very nice work my friend! i am starting to build a play gym myself:) but mine is natural wood from my back yard:D

Good luck with yours mrgoogls! It'll be awesome I bet!!!!

Here's a pic with different toys on Buddy's new playgym. I still need to work out food dishes so they're up higher and easier for him to get to them. But he *can* get to them, so that's the important part right now I guess! He uses the ball to get to the middle level from the top and then he actually uses the ring as a ladder (which my hubby said he would probably be too afraid to do). I knew he wouldn't though. LOL
