Willow gets tangled in a toy...

This toy is very similar to the one she got stuck in tonight.

somehow she managed to worm her way through the middle of the munch ball and it broke free(she's a good weight, so it wouldn't have held her)

it got wrapped around her wing and under her body. I took a picture, it's not the best, but you can see how it is tangled around her.

man did she squawk and scream while I tried to remove it....thank god I had gloves one, or I'd be missing a few fingers right about now

Oh dear... that's bad. We've had some close shaves with string etc- had our lorikeet get tangled in my hat chinstrap, which had to be cut off, never with toys. Will have to keep an eye out for potentially dangerous ones.

Good lord Crimson! I think you need to have someone come and clean all the funky air in your house and on you!!! There's something floating around that needs to go away.....and give you a little luck and peace !! Get rid of the bad karma!!!

good question, it was fairly mild with what I've been thru, but never the less, imagine if that happened if I wasn't home???

WOW, you were soooooooolucky to have caught this in time. This could have ended badly. I'm beginning to realize that it might not be in the best interest of my bird to leave play toys in her cage when we are both gone or at night. Unless it's a completely bird safe toy that has no chance of harming her. But those are few and far inbetween.

I know some people who remove the toys from the cages if they go out.....it takes a bit of time, but I'd rather be safe than sorry....great suggestion!

Oh Beth,
I am so glad Willow is alright. It is hard to know if and when a toy becomes unsafe for a species of parrot. For more destructive parrots I keep their toys pretty simple. Toys to destroy large enough for safety and then metal toys and foraging indestructible ones is what I find the most reliable. I am wondering if your Willow is as hard on toys as Valentino is. I don't know enough about Jardines parrots to understand their toy needs.

If she resemble Valentino in toy needs I can share with you what I use for Valentino. Because he spends his time during the day in the cage he needs to be able to self entertain and enjoy his independent play time. For now I am home and work in my office but very soon I will be working outside the home for 8 hours a day along with commute time will leave Valentino with increased cage time. I worry about that.
