Parrots
All my rescues: Pepita, Rocky and Eva, my Quaker Parrots Clover and Sweet Pea, YNA Willie Buttons, and TAG Coca.
Buttons came home yesterday afternoon and by common decision was renamed "Willie Buttons". The name fits him well and as long as we call him Willie-Butt for a while, I am sure he will get used to it soon. He was very shy yesterday, probably because I had a full house and everyone wanted to admire him. He wanted nothing to do with me, scooted into the farthest corner of the cage every time he saw me.

The same thing happened this morning, until I drove his mansion onto the deck. That took some doing :) I had to lift one side over the door step and roll it out, only to find that I had to walk around the house and get in the front door to roll the OTHER side over the door step. I'm glad the front door was unlocked!

Once in the sunlight, Willie's entire demeanor towards me changed. He was curious, ate treats from my hand, let me rearrange all the perches and toys in the cage, and even when I forgot to close the huge door, he stayed inside when I went to get Clover to put her in her outside cage. How I could forget to close that door....I don't know. Good Boy !!!

I sprayed them all with water and he took a beeline to his water bowl, where he displayed his incredible wings and the beautiful colored feathers underneath. He wanted INTO THAT bowl so badly and enjoyed my wetting him down completely with the spray bottle. TWICE. I've rarely seen so much enjoyment. I wish I had had the camera with me at that moment, but he was so beautiful, that the sight was more than any photo could capture. Here is Willie:

Yay!! Glad he's home!!!

Willie Butt is really handsome, his plumage looks great!:) Not to alarm you but I always remove those type of bells from toys it is very easy for them to twist off those clappers and they are typically not safe metal.

Thank you Labell! I *am* alarmed, but that's a good thing! I'm not going to wake him up now, but first thing in the morning I will remove the bells from all the toys in the house. Why would bird stores sell stuff that is not bird safe to begin with???? IS there something like a bird safe bell on the market?

Welcome home Willie Butt! BEAUTIFUL birdy boy!!! :D

You must be so over-the moon!

Yes, there are bird safe bells. This one in particular is a HUGE hit with my Sam.

Willie had a good day today! He ate huge amounts of fruit and vegetables although he had not had anything like that to eat for many years. Sweet potatoes are his favorite! Two days in the sun/shade, with beautiful weather, instead of his cage being covered on three sides. He'll miss me tomorrow while I'm at work, I'm sure of that, but he will get more sunshine when I get home. So far I haven't heard any loud amazon calls, other than "Mother" whenever I went inside to get something. "Byebye" and "I'm coming" are things he blabbers encouragingly when I'm out of sight.

He enjoyed a chicken bone today. It was part of his Memorial Day dinner. So far I haven't asked him to "step up". I think we both need time to trust each other :)

Glad he's settling in well AND eating his fruit and veg!

On another note, don't zons strongly remind you of a velociraptor or t-rex when they eat bones:54:?

Congratulations!!! Sorry I'm late to this party. Willie Butt is stunningly handsome! Sounds like he's already enjoying his new home and new menu.

1. To make money.

2. Yeah, the pipe bells, with the clackers they can't reach. They also hold up forever. Those little bells are crap, and they are also an ingestion hazard as well as a metal toxicity hazard.

Napes are not shy by nature. My guess is he won't be for long. None of mine were... And yeah, amazons and macaws, just add water and they go... they are so much fun when getting wet.

I'm afraid Clover takes first prize when it comes to impersonating a T-Rex! You should see her running after my granddaughter when she's wearing her fuzzy colorful socks. I need to film that.....it takes me right back to Jurassic Park!

So far *I* have heard Willie say:

- Mother
- Hello
- Byebye
- I'm coming

He also makes a sound as if striking the bars of his cage with a metal rod when a dog gets too interested in him. Even my German Shepherd was impressed. She clearly interpreted it correctly. WARNING, get away from my cage! (I don't think I want to know how he learned that sound).

As far as I'm concerned he is a very quiet bird. My daugher and son's girlfriend however texted me today that Willie is a potty mouth and LOUD. The cleanest word they heard was "dammit", the others are not G-rated, but honestly... I won't belive any of it until I hear it myself.
