Hi guys i have a question for all alex. owners,i have a pair or 6 to 7 mounts old alex, pair. their are very healthy , eating almost everything what birds should eat.and are very playfull.they spend 4 to 5 hrs out of their cadges, a day. what i wanted to know will they ever talk , i keep talking to them for mounts, but they dont seem to pick up a word, i dont mind that, but was wanting to know if you keep one bird it talks better than keeping two .

yes alex's have the ability to talk, but whether they do or not is up to them. i have 3, and next month they will be 1, 2 & 4. the 2 & 4 yr old lived together for the 2yrs and say a few words, the 4yr old has picked up a few new wirds since coming to live with me. my baby hasnt said a clear word as of yet, just sits and chatters away.
it totally depends on the bird, they may say nothing for years and then all of a sudden ine day ask "what ya doin" my previous alex did that to me

just kerp talking to them and spending time with them

My sister suggested to me playing a recording over and over to them - either your voice or a cd or something. It worked with her Blue-fronted Amazon, but I don't know how different they are to Alexandrines in terms of vocabulary.
But as Gemini said, talking to them and spending time with them is the key! :-)
