had a green cheek conure and he died last July , I was so sad Now I am so blessed to have adopted a grey named Lucy 5 years old!!!
I am adopting an 8 year old congo and I don't think he talks do you think that I could still teach him to talk at this age:grey::)

Of course you can teach him to talk... It just takes time and patience...

Do you know the previous owners? They might be able to help..

If this is one of the birds you are referring to inanother post that came from a Sanctuary, how long was he kept there? Birds learn to talk because they want to mimic us and they want our attention. They usually learn to talk from repetition.

Take for example my Eclectus Mac: He came to me second hand and one day, he just started saying "Want some fresh water". Now, this is the phrase that I always use when I get his water dish out of his cage. I would say, "You want so fresh water". I said this at least 5 times a day when I would change out his water and he picked it up. So now when I open up his cage in the morning, this is one of the things he says to me.

The same thing goes with his new game, which is Peek a Boo. He started saying Peek a Boo after I played this game with him for a week or so. But the other day he also picked up "Peek a Boo, I see you", which surprised my wife. But he will drive you nuts with "Peek a Boo" because he will say this at least a hundred times a day umtil I play the game with him. He's like a broken record. By the way, my wife thanks me all the time for teaching him Peek a Boo. I always respond that he could always start screaming. She likes peek a boo a lot better.

I don't see why not. Merlin and Pete are in their 20s and learning new words all the time. Both of them have doubled their speaking vocabulary since being here. I used the term speaking vocabulary because Merlin makes at least 30 imitations but speaks very few human words. They are also learning from each other.

Merlin has learned from Pete: Whoo! Hurry! I love you

Merlin has learned from Rowdy: Pretty bird

Pete has learned from Merlin: Allllrrriiigghht!

And if he's like Merlin and does a bunch of imitations, it is still quite humorous. She was only here for a few minutes when I thought the fire alarm was going off. I ran all over the house looking for a fire, including down the basement and outside to look into the crawl spaces:D She woke up this morning shooting off laser guns (video game sound).

Pete and Merlin are speaking in each other's voices, too, and if I'm not looking at them I'm not sure who said what now.

Roxy your birds sound adorable and so fun to live with! I am so excited to have two greys male and female

OMG, Merlin just said my name!!!! She said it in a very strange voice, but I'm positive she said it:D:D:D

She said it in one of the monster voices, but she said it, lol!

Earlier I also thought she said, "I'm...not...normal", but I'm not sure on that, lol!

We had a timneh for YEARS and he never talked no matter how much my dad tried and tried to get him to. My dad passed away and a few months later he started to say a few words without anyone trying to get him to talk. I think it's never too late.

A lady I know adopted a grey from a garage sale. The owners told her 'the dumb bird won't talk'. She's talking up a storm after 8 months, adding words everyday. Sometimes, they just dont have anything they want to say.
