As many of you have read i am birdless and thinking about the next steps. While i know what i do like there are so many species i haven't had personal experience with and havent even given a thought to.
So people brag away! Tell me why your birds is the best and a species i should consider because i want to hear allllll about them =D
Everyone can join in even if your chosen species isnt available here, who doesnt enjoy bragging about their birdies?!

The Beaks are the best because they're green. I love green in all its forms so... no brainer, really. They're funny and clever and resourceful and naughty. Their life's purpose is not so much to eat me out of house and home as to eat my house and home. Other than that, they love me dearly and look for me all the time and make me feel like a really, really huge green bird with a long tail and a big red beak. Love 'em!

Dominic is the best because he's damaged. He's so different from the bird he should be and is trying so hard to remodel himself. Sometimes he gets scared or frustrated (then he bites me), but other times he's all fluffy and funny and busy turning things into confetti. Very very occasionally, he'll let me cuddle with him and scratch his head. Times like that, I feel humbled to think this poor little guy is willing to trust his life to me and let me close to him. I love Dommie very dearly indeed and probably because of his neediness. As I type this, he's sitting in his hanging basket over the door munching on a package that came from ebay this morning. He's happy as a lark and will hoot at me every ten minutes or so just to check I'm still here. Of course, I hoot back, which makes the neighbours think I'm very odd!

The Lovies are just the funniest, clowniest, busiest little folk. They're so pretty and different, each in his own way. Angel is the bold one and Pineapple is the Boss. Shadow is secretive and always manages to lurk behind someone else. He does this so well, I often get a fright when I uncover the cage thinking 'Where's Shadow?!?!?!?!?' - but then he'll pop out from behind Pineapple (who is very large compared to the babies) and I heave a sigh of relief. Dusky and Twilight are sweet and diffident and just learning to try new things. I put a pair of cheap ping-pong bats in the cage yesterday. They're more like cast plastic tennis racquets, so the Lovies can perch on them or climb on them and I can push treats in between the 'strings' for foraging. Dusk and Twilight will fly onto one or other of the racquets, hang there for an instant and then visibly go 'OK! That's enough derring-do for one session. I'm outta here' and they'll nick off as if pursued by eleventeen cats! LOLOL! I'd never have just one Lovebird because for me, all the fun is in the flock dynamic: one day, the Good Lord will provide me with a large aviary and then I'll have billions of Lovies. And Beaks. And Galahs. And a Mishka and a Fargo and a Safari and etc etc etc. :D

My Ivory is the best... hands down, everyone else can stop typing now :) She's the bare eyed girl in the family. She is such a sweet loving girl. She can home with some issues, but has turned into such a sweetheart to have around. And I know not everyone agrees but I think she is just beautiful, bare eye patches and all! Tho I know in the cockatoo world, she is unique... she is quiet, does not pluck and outside of thinking new objects are going to eat her, has no real issues or neurotic tendencies.

The sun conure comes in a close second. Victoria's Loki baby is just such a little clown and its too adorable the way he likes to crawl down in your sweatshirt and nap.

But I will guess that in every bird type we can find an example of the best bird! :)

I still hope to see news of Barry and until then, I look forward to hearing when you find a new addition that was meant to be with you!

Pfft! You all can just pack up and go home right now because my Percy is the bestest best bird out there!

He is willful, clever, funny, bossy, naughty, musical, talkative (when he wants to be ;) ), gentle (also when he wants to be ;) ), entertaining, acrobatic, strong....should I go on? ;)

Seriously though, he is also damaged - wing badly positioned after an untreated double break and he's got some damage to his foot/leg on that same side too, we assume it happened at the same time. He came from a house where he was neglected by his owner and apparently mistreated by the owner's spouse. He was super aggressive with women as a result. But he's learned to trust again in our care and while it has been a hard (and sometimes bloody) road, he has come around and given us back so much love. My heart just melts when I see how calm he is now when meeting new women. Previously, hed actively 'hunt out' my sis when she came around, just to nip her. Now, he tries very hard to get close to her, making coochie coo sounds, just to sit with her, but she is still very scared of him LOL!

I've read that male BFA's are difficult birds but I have not found that with him. Yes, he was agressive but only if pushed too far. He is a wonderful bird and I utterly adore him. I was shattered and very heartbroken when I had to put my 13yo dog to sleep late last year and never thought I could love another animal like I did her. She was, and still is, the love of my life and I still miss her terribly. But Percy boy has stepped up and started to fill that hole in my heart.

What I'm trying to say, I guess, is that I love that crazy wild green sharp beaked clown and that is why he is the very best bird ever!

Why 'Robin' Red Bellied parrot is simply THE best parrot... :)

He is just a Roll-with-the-punches kind of guy. He is an extremely cuddly bird, BUT, he is equally as independent! If he really wants cuddles and he hasn't seen me all day, and if on an odd day I have an emergency or I'm otherwise still too busy and don't have time, he'll be big about it and suck it up without ever holding a grudge. Get this... One time within the 20 years that I've had him, I fell very ill and had to leave my apartment (he was my only bird then), and had to have my mom take care of me for over a month. My dad would take me to see Robin and clean his cage and make sure he had food and water about every other day or so. When I'd get there, my dad would have to do his cage because I'd be too weak to stand or even say hi to Robin. He literally didn't have any human interaction for over a month! When I was able to return back home, Robin welcomed me, and was just fine and acted like nothing ever happened... Wow!! That's my boy :D The best bird I've ever had.

I've had several more good birds over the years than I have now, and let me tell you, no one will ever be like Robin is to me. He and I are also more closely bonded than I've ever been to a bird. To ANY animal.

Aww wow he does sound special!!

Our Quaker is the best because he such a cheeky little character. He is really smart. In a month he has learned to say "Hello", "Give me some" at appropriate times. He says hello when someone comes in the room and give me some if he sees you with food. He is starting to say "I'm a dinosaur" which we chose as our praise phrase as the boys think it will sound better than "good bird" or good boy" especially if he turns out to be a girl. He laughs as well, and makes magpie sounds ( which we would rather he didn't), and was making saw sounds. He also comes when I click for him sometimes, and clicks when he wants us to come over.

He is very affectionate and likes to sit with people, he loves to be stroked, and is always curious about everything. We also love that he seems to have bonded to the whole family. He was afraid of me at first, but has decided he likes me now, and comes to the children as well.

The boys think it is brilliant when he has temper tantrums too - like if you bring him veggies for dinner instead of good stuff.

On the downside though - he pulls hair - I think he is trying to preen my hair, he chews holes in things and he is a very fussy eater. He can be loud as well, but I suppose all parrots are and he quiets down quickly. He is was quite noisy when workmen were in. I don't think he liked the disturbance but usually isn't too loud with just us except if he hears someone in the next room and they don't come in to see him. He also tends to call out in the morning a little, but only after his blanket is lifted. He quiets down as soon as everyone is downstairs. It is like he just wants to see where everyone is.
