Hi everyone!

I'm about to become a bird owner again in a few days! :) The new arrival is a baby Blue Front Amazon parrot, in which I've named Sierra. I just ordered a new cage, which should be here this week. So excited!! Here's a photo of her:

It will be nice to have a feathered companion again. It has been six months now since the loss of my beloved Blue Front, Kalani, whom was a part of my life for almost 9 years. I adopted her from a local bird rescue. She was such a wonderful, funny, and smart bird. I lost her during a surgery to remove an out-of-control cyst. :( The vet tried everything to get the cyst to drain and go away on its own, but it was not going to happen. Kalani's red blood cell count was dropping, and she really had no other option but the risky surgery.

Here's some of the last photos I had of Kalani:

So, yeah... it's been a quiet and surreal six months. This is the first time I've been without a bird since I was about 6 years old! Before Kalani, I always kept Cockatiels, with a few Budgies very early on.

That's a little back story... just wanted to say hello to all the other bird people out there! :) :green:

Hello! I'm so sorry about your loss...very sad.

On a different note, congrats on your new baby : )

Thank you for the kind words! It all happened so fast, too. One week she was fine, then one day she's got this giant lump that just grew SO FAST. It was scary.... spent an entire week in/out of the vet's office for different ways to try to get the thing to stop growing. IDK, it really was a wake-up call.... to not take life for granted!

But on that positive note, I am very excited for Sierra's arrival. I know she won't be Kalani, but I know she will be just as wonderful in her own way! Will be interesting, as it has been a very long time since I've brought a new bird home. :)

Hello, welcome. Sorry about your dear Kalani, she was beautiful!
Hope your new fid brings you much joy! She is just adorable!!

Welcome...
So sorry for your loss, loosing Kalani, having been his guardian for 9 years, is so devastating.
On a brighter note, congrats on Sierra, she is absolutely adorable.
How exciting awaiting a new arrival
Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much everyone! :)

Just bought some new toys for the little bird today. Hopefully the cage gets here so I can get it set up, then Sierra can come home!

Oh how wonderful!

Sounds like you really love your fids. Sierra will have a lovely home with you I bet!

Sorry for your loss, sometimes their time is just up even though it's far too soon for us. But now you have Sierra to fuss over and I'm sure Kalani would appreciate you taking on another Blue front :)

I sure will! :) As of right now, it looks like Tuesday will be the day I'll bring her home! The new cage will be here today, so will be working on getting that all set up.

Antoinette: You are so very right, it's been pretty quiet and boring. Took a while to break the habit of walking over to the cage to offer Kalani some fruit and other foods she really enjoyed. Also listening for the songs she whistled and the various phrases.

On that note, any recommendations on making the transition for the baby any better? It has been such a long time since bringing a new bird home, that I'm not even sure what the proper way to help them adjust is anymore. lol!!

Socialize, socialize , socialize. Take them every where and intro as many new people as possible. If you don't have a very active house, get her out and have different people interact with her. Involve as many family members as possible , intro her new" flock".

Welcome to the forum:) Sorry for the loss of your BF, but on a happier note, your new Baby Sierra is adorable :)

Lots of Zon Owners on the Forum, including myself:)

She's sweet as sweet can be. Right now she's sleeping in her new home and just getting used to the new surroundings. SO Excited!

Also set up a vet appointment for Thursday to get her checked out.
