One Cockatiel, Aska <3
When I hold out millet seeds in my hand, he'll jump on my hand and then eat it and such. But then after most of the seeds are gone, he'll sort of nibble on my fingers that have no millet on them. He sort of chews on my nails too. It's not something he does super often, but it's a curious little thing that I've noticed.

His feet are also really cold when he steps onto me, but then quickly warms up to very warm temperature. Is this a good thing? It just seems sorta weird.

I also finally named him, after 3 weeks lol his name is Aska! He's named after a bird in a video game, but that's just an extra nerdy fact lol :smile027:

They use their beak to try on everything! It's nothing unusual! He might of just been playing around and carrying on when his feet seem cold. I don't think it's anything to worry about. Aska is a interesting name! :)

Ah, that makes sense! He's testing out my nails lol well it makes sense to test out the fingers on the hand that's holding you :p

So, the cold feet aren't a bad thing? I just figured that all animals should be warm!

& thank you! I'm starting to look into how I can teach his name to him. I'm so glad he finally has a name, honestly I've just been calling him Birdy and I don't like that lol.

When they wonder and play around, their feet can feel a bit cold at times especially if your naturally hot blooded like me. I'm always hot!

Okay, thank you! That's interesting. He makes me worry so much! He should be really be named Homework Distraction or something.

Now you have a new excuse for school! My bird ate my homework.... :D

You're right, it is a curious thing! Being Aska is being curious about you! :D

It goes to show that he's learning to trust in you if he's starting to explore you and figure you out!

Well, I've always thought that when a bird nibbles on you like that, it's a sign of affection. Chipper does that to me all the time now...when I'm holding and petting her, she gently nibbles on my fingers and she even climbs up on my shoulder and nibbles on my face! It's like they're trying to preen you!

It could also just be curiosity. But either way, it's a very good sign! It means he trusts you and is comfortable enough to make contact with you. As far as his feet getting warm when he is on your hand, that could be a good sign too. I've read that if a bird's feet are warm, that means they're content.

when a bird becomes relaxed their feet get warm. sounds like you are becoming friends :)
