Why does my Amazon seemingly lunge at nothing?

I just adopted a Blue Front Amazon a few weeks ago, she's about 20 years old and seems kind of nervous. I'll take her off her perch and set her down, but she'll just move to the edge or corner of whatever she's on and hang out there doing nothing, so I'm working on that. I've got her to interact with me vocally back and forth and she'll step onto my finger when she wants to move places or is ready to go to bed.

I've been noticing that sometimes she'll start randomly lunging at nothing, usually after I've set her down and gone across the room. Nobody will be around her, or at least close enough to touch and she'll just lunge away for a little bit. I don't think it's an aggressive thing because if I go up to her while she's doing it she'll stop and let me scratch her neck or ears.

I've been reading that lunging is bad or at least not desired, but sometimes she'll even turn her back on everyone and start lunging, she kind of even seems happy while doing it.

Any insight would be very welcome!

Is she doing a display with her tail feathers fanned?
She may just be playing and showing off, if it is not directed at anything in particular I don't think there is any harm in it.

I agree with Sandy, but then she could be practicing her advance-lunge & lunge.....she doesn't carry around an Épée, does she ? ? ?

By the way...Sandy, PM me, if you don't mind, or e-mail me...I think my address is in my info.....thnx

She sounds like a "fearful" bird, she may be acting out so she appears more "intimidating". It's a sort of defense mechanism. IMO

Edit, do you think it;s more like a yawn? I only ask because of the bird;s age, has she been on a sunflower seed diet for a long period?
