If I am buying toys and not making them I buy from ether this lady, she is great and even donates a lot to rescues and runs great deal she is my goto girl!
I like to buy toys from my safe bird store, I especially like Planet Pleasure toys.
I don't buy wooden toys though, Kenji would make me broke if I did that LOL I'm waiting to try my hand at cutting my own pine, and I buy wood pieces from my safe bird store. and string them on stainless steal chains from old destroyed toys.
I buy toys in huge bulks at the bird expo held every few months. They have the best deals ever!! I get 6 piñata toys which would normally retail for 10-15 each, but I cut deals at 20 for all 6!! Fill them up with treats and there's a cool foraging toy for Nalani to shred. Usually I spend about 150-200 and get about 30 toys (acrylic and plastic foraging toys are still pretty pricey... Just a few bucks cheaper than online) . Of course Nalani doesn't go through every single one but i like to rotate them around and make it interesting for her.
However, I've had good luck with dr.foster and smith, mysafebirdstore, amazon and eBay. I like eBay because the toys and swings are handcrafted and found nowhere else.
Check and see if there's any bird expos in your area and go gave a look. I'm even thinking of purchasing an aviary the next time I go. I saw a great deal on an awesome walk in aviary for 600! Half the price of what others charge.
Just be sure to sanitize and disinfect EVERYTHING before introducing the products to your bird. Who knows what kind of bacteria and viruses those places harbor. I just love the deals and can't pass up saving a few bucks :$
Yea bird expos are great that is we're I get the toys from the man manly in PA he makes amazing large wood toys for a great price plus gives me a discount for rescuing, acrylic forgaging toys may be expensive but they last and my birds love them to!
I work for a Petco in Nj and right now we are going through a major (yearly) product change in Small Animal and Bird Supplies. I'm not 100% sure if all stores do it at the same time or if it goes by specific distribution districts but there are TONS of bird toys and products on clearance. It couldn't have come at a better time because I am getting a baby within a month or two. But they have the Planet Pleasures toys, and other natural brands. So with the old toys leaving (at a good price) new toys will also be arriving soon!
I haven't purchased much online yet, but I'd like to try tampering in making my own- but I'm not sure I'm crafty enough!
Having 2 caiques ,I know they love swings ,boings and foot toys . So they can hop and bounce . Mine like any softer toy that is by a perch [they like to lean against it at night.] Besides the million toys mine have [they like balled up newspaper.] and grapvine branches. I also put toys on top of their cage. They have fun climbing in ,out and on top.
i was buying all mine but after looking at the dyi section i now make my own, local craft shop has most things, i need , then just straws and chopsticks are the ones they love the most, the other half of the coconut i have im turning into an echidna with the straws and chopsticks , a lot of drilling but they will totally enjoy it
Another idea for you. I have been having good luck at some thrift stores and goodwill stores buying parts to make toys. Examples full boxes of poker chips. Drill a hole in the center then hang and or string as many as you want i find them in a full box 99 cents. Deck of playing cards 50 cents, Hard plastic baby toys for a quater or 50 cents I got a bottle of plastic bugs for 99 cents that are small childrens toys and should be okay for the birds, string and hang. bamboo paper plate holders tie with small toys and hang from cage. at the bird show they were selling for ten dollars apiece. straw wreaths, hang toys and they can chew the whole thing, Straws tied in knots as foot toys. plastic measuring cups, wooden spoons drill a hole and hang. wooden blocks. If you look and use your imagination their are tons of tons you can make. Playskool makes great baby toys you can find and adapt
