I know lots of our birds came to us named already, but is there a story behind your bird's name? Here's mine:

All of pets have "people" names - Luke, Shelby, Gracie, Eva - so we when we were picking out a name for my bird, we kept that in mind. The first day or so that we had him, he was in his destructo bird phase, so he's technically Mad Max, but mostly Maxi-Max.

For our red front - the breeder has a system for her babies' names. Ours was named Gem, which we kinda liked, but everyone thought we said Jim. So, we selected Jade - a green gem.

I fell in Love with Dusty at a Pet Shop I work at. I knew that I wanted to take him home. Generally larger birds at the store are given names. Dusty was not given a name while he was there... Well I brought him home and still couldn't think of a name so I let my little brother help me. My little brother named him dusty because of the gray spot on Dusty's head (he's a dusky conure). I like the name so I kept it for him.

Hugo's name comes from Hugo The Boss the fragrance and its very suiting as he is the boss - Lol. :)

Ozzys name was due to the fact he headbanged when we first picked him up at the breeders.

Poppy is due to her red tail :)p)

I wanted to name our bird Conrad, but my husband didn't want a people name. He suggested Alcatraz, for no particular reason. I suppose there is some irony in it since the bird spends a large portion of his day in a cage. But I mulled over it for days and I couldn't think of anything better. So Alcatraz it is.

Russell's full name is Russell Peters Benajmin-Martins. Russell Peters for the Canadian Comedian and then our last names. I wanted a female parrot so I could name her Annie, for my Grandmother and for Anakin Skywalker but we came accross Russell and I'm glad.

I am almost embarrassed to tell you! My teenage daughter was a huge fan of The girls of the playboy mansion and when we brought our baby home she asked if we could call him Puffin. I said "where did that come from?" and she informed me that's what one of the playboy bunnies called Hugh Hefner!

The name Mishka means "the gift of love"
We observed her behavior, and noticed how she loved to give love.
We searched the INTERNET for names, for about two weeks.
Long story short, looked up names with the meaning of gift of love and came across Mishka.
She sure lives up to her name, each and every day.
Mishka sure is our "Gift of Love"

My two birds are named after spanish painters.
In liberty Lineolated Parakeets are living in South-America.
I wanted to give them spanish names, because there is Spanish spoken. I like painting and drawing, so I decided to give them the names Miro and Pablo.
Pablo means "the small" and Miro "the peaceful".

We had a dog named Dexter. He was a black lab and named after the title character in the cartoon Dexter's Lab.

BTW - congrats again on the addition of Dexter

He's smart enough he probably could say it. I can't believe how much his vocabulary has grown over the last few weeks, everyday it's a new word, he's so funny.

Russell Peters is in homage of our homebred hilarious comedian, and then we had to stick our surnames on the end, I don't think Russell cares what his name is to have to learn it all.

BTW i Love Mishka's name it sounds so pretty.

Thanks she is pretty, I just hope she is a female LoL
If not, we will have to call her Mishko.

How old is Russell now? Mishka is just over two years old now.
She is also learning so many new sentences per week, its amazing.
Last week I taught her to say the bell is ringing tick tock tick tock.
Then she adds our names on and says mommy or Sean or Steven, the bell is ringing tick tock tick tock.
Each week something new, she does not enjoy singing so much or whistling.
She sings Baa Baa Black Sheep have you any Mishka then talks and just talks. haha I guess she takes after me.
I hope our feathered friends realize how much love and joy they give us.
