This afternoon I was in the kitchen preparing foods for a party we were going to, Husband was on the couch, watching football on TV and his tablet. All dogs were working hard on their naps. I stepped into the living room heading to our bedroom, see Buddy and say hello, look for Venus. There's no Venus. I ask Husband "Do you know where the red bird is?" We call her red bird as a nickname, lol. Husband said she was on top of her cage. We both looked immediately at the love seat, I stood in front of the love seat and start calling her and here she comes from under the love seat. Canelo, our English bulldog, comes and stands by me and is checking Venus out. He then turns and grabs his rope toy, walks to Venus and offers it to Venus wanting to play, lol! I put my hand down for Venus and she stepped up. Cute moment, glad she came out from under the couch so willingly. I hope she's as agreeable over the next few weeks.

That's funny! I bet it was cute to see her walk out from under the loveseat. Hopefully she won't get too nesty there.

Canelo sees himself and the birds and dogs as all part of the family, and therefore wanted to share his toy with Venus how cute. You're fortunate to have a dog like that instead of seeing birds as prey!

Hahaha! She is LOVING that little area under the loveseat, eh?

Fortunately, neither of my birds is comfortable with walking about on the flat floor, and I never encourage it for this very reason. That nesting instinct is STRONG! Lol!

I am blessed but still don't trust them 100%. I discourage her from the floor but she is fearless. Since she's been so nesty made her stay inside her cage and closed it when we are gone. She's typically very good about staying on her play top or her boing. In fact I asked Husband if he saw her cross the living room to go under the love seat and he said no. She strolls, doesn't run, lol.

She's so fearless I'm worried about when she starts flying. When her flight feathers are in I will start recall training with her. Buddy was easy to train, but Venus does have that independent streak. I'm glad the dogs aren't crazy about prey but still...

Excellent, Tracey! Never trust a dog or cat 100% with your bird. That predator instinct is always there, no matter how sublimated.

As for Venus' recall training, you can actually start from now with target training. Then, by the time her flights grow in, she'll already be recall trained.

"She strolls, doesn't run." Hahahahaha! I love it!

Well, I'm cleaning today. Husband is on the couch, football on the TV and tablet, see my bag of trash in the corner? I come in the livingroom and find "The Stroller" strolling around. I had Husband look down, he never saw her so she is now in her cage, door closed till I'm done. She's too nesty b

ahh! that picture is adorable! but i understand your fears completely. i was at work the other day, and my boyfriend was home with the animals. ziggy was out on his stand, and my boyfriend ended up falling asleep on the couch. our 2 dogs were perfectly fine with that, and decided to nap with him. he woke up and looked at ziggys stand, and he wasnt there! he had climbed down and walked through the dining room and was just chilling by himself on the kitchen floor! now, my dogs are very loving and wouldnt TRY to hurt him, but the larger of the two is more excited about small 'babies' than he should be, and he would prolly accidentally hurt my bird if he had known he was on the floor.

this spring, we had 12 baby chicks and 2 baby geese living in giant totes in the dining room while they were still too small to be outside, and the larger dog, Apollo, was going nuts all day every day because he wanted to play with his babies! he acts the same way twords cats. since theyre small i guess he thinks theyre his babies and he just wants to stuff his nose into them and drool everywhere. things would end badly if he tried that with a parrot :/
