We originally put a deposit down on a baby Sun Conure... but that whole thing turned into a nightmare (or blessing in disguise). After further research (hours upon hours upon hours) we are looking into a Pionus. But I can't seem to find any near me. I'm willing to drive, but I don't want to do the shipping thing, because I like to meet the breeders and bird before taking it home.
Thanks all!! :)

I've bought most of the birds I've ever had sight unseen. BUT, I made sure it was either a well known and/or reputable breeder first :)
I personally like how some breeders adhere to "closed aviary" standards, meaning closed to the public for strict bio-security (anti-disease) reasons.

You can look on birdbreeders.com. They list tons of breeders for whatever species you're looking for in your area. You can then call them and ask questions and get a feel for them. You can ask for references too.

Also, there are A LOT of fairly young Pionus in rescues in every state. A few people here have gotten a really sweet Pionus that way just this year. I fairly regularly hear of advertisements for Pionus on bird re-homing sites too. Often hidden gems too, not problem birds. Though you may not see them as often as some other species, but they ARE out there if you look consistently. I bet with some searching, you can find a good one in no time. :)

Birdbreeders.com would be the place to go to find it. BUT I went there to search for IA and there's only one breeder that pops up for pionus and that's the one I do NOT recommend!!! she's located in Sioux City and I've been there before long time ago.

Thanks everyone!! And so the journey begins! :) So excited!
