Ok so some of you know I recently got my dream bird a Camelot Macaw yesterday. He is 10 years old semi tame the lady I got him from said he bites occasionally (but when I was with him at her home he was such a sweetheart) he was set up to be a breeder last year and the female started bullying him and he plucked his chest feathers out from stress he has since stopped and they are slowly growing back in some places. So my question is when should I start Clicker training him?? I usually wait a few days just letting birds get used to their new home before I start really interacting with them and training them but i've never had a Macaw or a bird with a history of plucking so any suggestions would be much appreciated!! He has seen me play with my other birds and i've talked to him and gave him treats through the cage but I try not to be too involved with him now cause I want him to get used to his new home.

I'm no expert, but I just got my macaw on Nov. 8 and I thought I'd never handle him. So I left him alone more or less for a week. Then suddenly, yesterday he wanted to start working with me. So, for me, clicker training started after 8 days. Now my opinion...if he's willing to train, then train!

You can start whenever! I don't use clicker to train my macaws and they do just fine though. But that's just me....I train all my birds from day one!

I don't clicker train either.

Macaws are one of the most interactive of the bunch.

So this one depends on the bird. I tend to want to handle them sooner rather than later if the bird appears to be receptive to it.

The more you handle them, the mushier they get!

Although I first began training without a clicker, and found it effective, once I began using it, I found it very helpful, particularly when teaching other family members how to interact with my bird(s).
