When do young parrots become fully coordinated

Like the title says! I own a blue head pionus, but a ball park figure for similar sized birds would be appreciated.

My Pi is 5 months old and his coordination is improving dramatically. Im curious as to when they get fully coordinated. Thanks!

Depends on the species. And sometimes, the subspecies...

CAGS seem to take the longest... they may be smart but they certainly aren't the most coordinated young birds.

For my money, baby big macs - especially blue throats - are amazingly coordinated.

I helped hand feed a baby blue throat awhile back, and this silly bird was exceptionally people oriented. It was barely perching, and yet it learned to work the cage latch, let itself out, climbed down, and made a B-line straight up the second story stairs, up my leg, and back onto my lap...

"DON'T SET ME DOWN! I DON'T WANNA GO TO BED!"

I think coordination may also depend on flight. Birds that are clipped may take longer to learn how to fully coordinate their bodies than birds who are left fully flighted after weaning. Of course, you could always end up with a clumsy flighted bird that could take a while, too.

There is a TON of research that connects abundance weaning and fledging to confidence and coordination - and the lack thereof to PLUCKING DISORDERS.

Don't know, but when we got our first IRN (Tiki) she was terribly uncoordinated, apparently always had been..wings had not been clipped but I had to trim her wings because she was SUCH a bad "lander"...would just crash into things/ floor/ etc. It was safer for her to NOT be able to fly too far, with her wings clipped she could still fly but not pick up as much speed, which we found helped. She is a GREAT climber, but we have tried twice now to let her go unclipped, and her landing skills just have not improved much...

Pippin is slowly gaining coordination but, while he can fly and land ok, his climbing skills aren't very good...he loses balance a lot but is slowly improving.

Sounds kind of like Lara Joseph's Rocky... great flyer, couldn't land worth a crap without crashing into something.... so he's being trained on how to land - while being flighted.

Kiwi has grown out her flight feathers the past month and can fly with surprising accuracy. She flew from her perch, under an open cabinet door and onto my shoulder on the other side.

She's also flown from her cage, hovered over the stair case, found my waiting finger and flew towards it, landing with precision.

She's about 9 months old
