When do you know that you have a strong bond?

Hi y'all bird lovers .

Since that I've only have and ever had one parrot and do not know anyone that is close to me owning one of these beautiful creatures, I was wondering when you can call your bond to your parrot strong? How can I know if Lulu and I have a strong bond? I can touch her everywhere I wan't but she does not like to be pet... I can also pick her up, not stepping up, but in my hands. She does not enjoy it, so I don't do it but the few times I have, she didn't bite me. The few times I've picked her up in my hands, it seems to she bites her feet LOL .

Long story short, how can I see if I've a strong bond with my parrot?

When they stop biting the heck out of you. At least that was the turning point for me. Then after that it seemed that we were making strides by leaps and bounds. She started coming to me with her head down asking for a head scratch and a neck rub. Then she started crawling up my arm and onto my chest and getting directly under my chin and rubbing her head, neck and cheeks against my chin letting my wiskers scratch her. Now if that ain't love right there, I don't know what is hahahahaha.

I also play get the toe with her. I will make motions towards while saying I'm going to get those little toe's and make tooth pics out of them. She will start moving away from my hand while pecking at my fingers, but never biting me. She will start squawking and squealing and then start moving back towards my hand again. She is as much into the playing as I am. I think she really likes to hear me laugh because she seems to get real excited and start bouncing her head up and down and back and forth the more I laugh the more she does this and then stops and stretches her neck up real high.

@mtdoramike: Sounds like you to are having great fun! A pleasure to read. Lulu, my CAG was handfed so she has been used to hands since I got her, so I don't really know if we have bonded or if she is just coming to me because she's used to hands. She has never bitten me. Sometimes she will try to "attack" my finger, but her "bite" turns out to be some sort of cuddling to my finger LOL .
She don't like to be scrathed, sometimes she will lower her head, but her eyes stay open, and after 10 sec. she will remove her head...

have you tried wrigglin finger into a scratch when she does this finger cuddle?

does she follow you at all??

as for the head rub, whats your technique?? lol

nut very rarely steps up for me, she just politely refuses now, but she will follow me about

She follows me quite often. Sometimes she will sit on her own, and that is totally fine, but for the most of the times she will follow me. If I am on the couch, she will be near on her perch, if I move a bit further to the computer, she will perch on the chair and when I go in the kitchen she will fly in there .
Before I give her a scratch, I show her by signals with my hand/fingers. If she lower her head I will scratch her, but I'm pretty confused because I've been told that when they want to be scratched they fluff ther feathers and close their eyes... Well Lulu does not do that at all.. Sometimes, rarely she will fluff her feathers, but most of the times she won't even though she lowered her head by me giving her a signal meaning a head scratch is on the way .. She is weird... or maybe it's me?

lol she is perfectly normal, she likes your company an is happy with that, nut only closes her eyes some of the times, (very rare) but does then to pin them more when i've just come home from work lol


and others she lets me to be polite

fluffin feathers is not always good! lol i still have not figured nut out, with that but she will fluff when excited, but it could be excited with rage, like today when it was aimed at a wild bird stealin cherries

Good to hear that she's normal . Just like you, sometimes I can't figure Lulu out about the fluffing feathers thing, but mostly I can tell on her body language that if she is happy, excited or angry..

I read your thread about Nut and the bird outside eating the cherries. I cracked up reading it, seriously it was so funny! It made my day from good to the best LOL . Nut sounds like a sweetie pie.

don't you believe it! she lives up to her name lol if only she wasn't so dam charming! she even interacts with my son like a younger sibling, he annoys her, an in turn she annoys him

just as each bird is different, every relationship is also different

Hehehe... She sure have her own personality and it sounds like it's a crazy one . Every bird has its own personality and all birds are smart in their own way .
