I am getting a GCC this weekend, and I was wondering when we should take it to the vet for the first time. I'm not sure whether it should be the day after, or let it get used to our home a bit first, before taking it to the vet.

I have lost an Amazon because I didn't take him directly to our Certified Avian Vet the day I brought him home as I normally have done in the pass.

That said, with another Parrot in your home, you really want to take the new guy to see the CAV As Soon As Possible! Nothing more enjoyable than treating two Parrots for an illness that could have been spotted if the CAV saw the new guy earlier.

Over the years, I have found that a new Parrot handles seeing the CAV earlier much better than waiting. The reason is that they are already stressed and the inclusion of the CAV to the mix really doesn't add to that stress load. Once the Parrot is settled, and you are working on developing a trust bond, the CAV visit tends to result in a back slide.

Just my two cents!

Regardless of what you elect to do, remember to keep your Parrots separated for at least 30 days!!!

Enjoy!
