Jenday and Sun Conures look the same when they're young but once they start molting, the Sun's wings lose most of their green and become yellow, green, blue and some have red. The Jenday's wings stay green with sapphire blue flight feathers. Their heads become yellow while their bellies tend to darken to orange or red so it looks like a sunset.
My Jenday Conure, Con, is in his first major molt so he's scruffy looking and his head has orange and green mixed with the yellow. I almost don't want him to molt cause I think he's so cute now
They are closely related because they can hybridize. A Sun crossed with a Jenday is called a Sunday conure.
Strangely, both can also hybridize with Nandays. Most orinthologists don't consider Nandays to be in the Aritanga group of conures, but rather their own group called Nandayus. Nandays are the one oddity of the conure family I guess!
