Serious. We cooked a pot of beans Sunday in the Crock pot. About 4:30 they were smelling SO good I got a bowl. Let them cool and also pulled a few out for BB.
I put a few in his dish outside of his cage. I sat at the table to eat mine . BB calmly walked to the edge of his cage worked his way to a Kitchen Chair Hopped on the table and came straight at me > Stopped next to my bowl said hi and Started helping himself to a few then walked back to his roof top by way of a few pieces of furniture . HOW RUDE.
BF just cracked up laughing. This is the first time he has done that. He will let you know he wants what ever you are eating but to be as bold as just walk across the table to help himself shocked me. HATED I did not have my phone close to take a PIC

My Greenwing's favorite phrases are: "Izzat good?" and "Want some?"

She uses those in context. Translation: GIMME SOME!

But at least she asks first...

Sounds like someone has come out of his shell...

Didn't you know? Meal time is flock time and food off YOUR plate is ALWAYS better than the exact same thing out of their dish (obviously):D

I know a lot of people don't let their birds at the table as a rule, but I let Kiwi at the table during meals. He isn't allowed on the table to help himself, he has to stay on his perch, but there would be LOUD protests otherwise.

Yeah I have to set some type of rule for that but this is a amazing step for him. I am serious when I say I was shocked. I have to make something for him to use. Or stay on the back of the chair. He actually paused there . The food was right down below him.
Yes Mark he is coming out of his shell. Amazing to watch.
I'm also amazed a the softening of his tone when he talks. Its not a scream anymore but actually soft.
Guess it is time to work on manners and rules UGH

That's a universal parrot truth...

Another universal parrot truth, if they can't have what's on your plate - you put the same stuff, from the same pot, in each dish, then what the other bird got, is obviously better than what is in their dish...

And so you get a game of musical food bowls.

That's how the "foraging" concept works in my household.

I give them theirs first, while our food "rests" so that they are busy stuffing their faces while we eat in peace...

We have a no animals at the table policy here. That's where I draw the line, in my otherwise over the top indulge the FIDS world...

Though I did order Banana Sorbet instead of ice cream when we were out on Sunday... (I had Maggie with me. Sharing was not an option. It's compulsory.) We sat outside and ate ice cream like substance...

Zilla eats on her own "plate" (a saucer) and she ALWAYS checks to make sure my plate has at least some of the same things as her plate and that I am eating them too! The top door of her cage folds down into a "shelf" so that's where I put her plate and then I sit in my chair about 3 or 4 feet from her cage and we have dinner "together" and "chat" about how yummy it is!

Boundary setting...

But actually, this is the fun part with a big mac. Teaching and learning, and bonding... and the more you do, the more interactive they get.

You could easily do a separate little dining table for him, like a scaled down version of that coffee table, using PVC, instead of wood, and make him a "feeding station" near the table, but not actually at the table. Sort of like a birdie High Chair concept.

Four kitchen table legs, a wood top, a couple of those stick on tiles, and a PVC perch set up with a couple of screw in bowls would do the trick just fine...

You could make something like that in two hours.

That is a great idea Mark. I actually have a table already that high and small. Plant Stand :)
I really agree I don't like him on the table for obvious reasons. I was just over the top happy he felt that secure.
I know i looked stupid just staring with a big smile on my face SO glad there was no picture.
He did manage to get in what little sunshine we had here Sunday. LOVED it I found a light I am thinking of getting

I have Tazzy's table perch in a clear plastic tub now so he can be at the other end of our table away from food or anything cooking. He eats perched inside, the mess stays inside the tub. It's tall enough that he can see over it when standing up, but nothing hits the table at all. That way while I'm in the kitchen he can hang out with me and I really don't have another place in there he could perch. There's no room. I constantly and excessively wipe/disinfect surfaces in that room anyway. I don't know if Sailor will be able to be in there or not, depends on how bad of a mess she makes. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen, I cook a lot. So if they can't be with me I'll miss out on a lot of time with them.

THAT is a very, very good idea, and if you wanted to, you could just screw a plastic tub down to a table, and build in perches... and presto! The birdie high chair is born! VERY GOOD IDEA...

LOL!!!! You got schooled by BB! Love it! Buddy will scream if he sees us eating so at meal time I will bring him his bowl of food and place it in his cage. He's in the livingroom with us, door to his cage is always open. He spends more time in his cage than out of it. After he's received his meal, we eat ours and all is quiet, but he has to eat with us. Mind you, we are in the livingroom eating, not at the table. In seven days, our new edition, Venus, will be joining us for dinner. She's an energetic Ekkie and I'm certain she's going to change dynamics in our home.

Lol what a helpful thread. It's not just food. My cell phone my glasses a pencil eraser... if I'm holding it, it's his...

LOL Yeah he got me. Trust me its not the first time.
Normally he has eaten already but planned on feeding him some of the beans . Like you most of our meals are in the den/living room he is mid way to both kitchen and den. His cage is always open now if we are home.
Trust me never in a million years would I have even thought he would come that far. But then again this Fid has come a long long way in the 3 1/2 months I have had him

The plant stand I had at home worked GREAT> Gave him a flat surface to stand on . He seemed to enjoy that. I place it right next to me with a small dish on it. I also put a small small cup of water he kept trying to get into my tea glass LOL Anyway it worked great .
Now if I can just get him to stop screaming HI like I am a deaf person . It's the only word he YELLS. I really think some people yell HI to birds trying to teach them to talk.

I use a "featherbright" lamp for Zilla, she really does like to have in for a few hours a few days a week.

After reading so much about the lights I think I will just put my $ into a good harness . We already have a cage on the deck for when weather is nice this will just help me spend more time with him

GRRRRRRR now harness shopping Damn I hate shopping . Serious I really do

Yep! My Yellow Headed Amazon (Pedro) comes flying into the kitchen and on to my shoulder as soon as I start cooking. He's so damn impatient. The Pastas on the boil, the Alfredo is simmering away and he's pecking at my ear demanding some "NOW"!!!

Our morning ritual as I'm whipping up coffee and a smoothie and Pedro's on my shoulder demanding a sip or two. As I stir the brews he'll parrot the sound of the spoon swirling around the glass.

Christine, Amazon.com!!
