Parrots
4 Lovebirds
Hello!

I can't decide whether i should get a baby cockatiel or a baby conure.

What would be the best one to get?

I think both are great. I have a GCC o love, got her fully weaned.

My neighbor has a cockatiel also an awesome bird, he got her fully weaned.

I think n this is such a great article I share it a lot because it cover so much!

I read to other thread condition of un weaned. So many die that way...its a big stress on them to switch hand rearing "person/parront " so many things can go wrong, even if you have had experience. O don't know about love burds, but for these species a weaned baby hand raised and socialized has no problems loving you and bonding with you.

I've only ever gotten weaned, or re homed rescues and have no problems with love and affection. ( though miss treated adults can have some hiccups as you show them humans are good)

Can you describe your situation? No species is “better” period, but one is better for YOU.

I have a huge cage and i do have the time to give the bird all the attention and love he/she needs. I just want a bird that will hopefully love the as much as i love him/her.

hand-raised cockatiels to be more demonstrative about affection than hand-raised conures

What personality are you looking for?

Oh I don't agree... many conure species are known as velcro birds. Both of my GCC have/are extremely cuddling
Ta -dah is leading on my cheek and giving kisses as I text
And it’s also about the individual bird! But both tiels and conures can and often will be affectionate 🙂

some times the birds dont even be cuddly

and it depends on the birds personality not the breed

Yeah....no. Parent raised vs hand raised doesn't mean the bird will be tame or not. Parent raised BUT handled as babies can be tame as well. As much as fully parent raised in an aviary. Just like there are hand raised birds who later on simply never became fully tame (more common with IRNs)

My stinker Pascal was a completely wild bird, but now almost a year later is very affectionate and quite tame.

As for cockatiel vs conure... both are very much awesome. 'Tiels are very chill birds while conures are tiny birds with huge bird personality that runs on 4x duracell bateries that never depletes.

I want a bird that's known to be cuddly and i hope that it will love me as much as i love him/her!
With any species, there's no guarantee they will be cuddly. Ever.
Conures ARE more likely to be like this than tiels, though.
