This guy on youtube (his GCC died) and he just got this new conure. In another video he said what type it was but he said the name so fast and I didn't understand it. Anyone know what type of conure it is?

I'm very much looking forward to getting a GCC in a few months... but I'm curious... are there any other conures very similar to GCCs that might be less prone to being aggressive towards my tiel? I hear GCCs are the "quietest" of all conures... so I'll be sticking to GCCs for that very reason... but am curious if other conures out there are as "nippy" as GCCs and possibly less prone to aggression?

That's a Dusky Conure. They're in the same family as the Suns, Jenday, etc. (Aratinga genus), so they might be more noisy. There are a couple members who have (or have had) a Dusky before, so can tell you specifics. I think they're gorgeous in person with an exceptionally bright green. Good luck deciding!

Thanks, interesting. I've read that conures (other than GCCs) are super loud... I was very excited to learn about GCCs being much quieter. The dusky conure seems a little bigger than GCCs.

Overall, the "aratinga" species (suns etc) are MUCH louder than the "pyrrhura" species (GCC etc) though noisiness is more a 'individual bird' trait. You may end up with a GCC that is noisier than a sun, you never know so just be prepared.

So just bear that in mind. There is a big difference between 'loudness' and 'noisiness'.

Have you looked into crimson bellies? Pumpkins breeder has some and she said they are normally quieter aND a bit less agressive that gcc. I don't know from personal experience but it would be worth exploring.

Interesting, thanks so much for the idea. I'm not very familiar with conures as I have always only had tiels... but I would LOVE to get a conure.

EDIT: I just found this info and it sees I guess it really just boils down to the individual bird since all birds are unique from each other, go figure: https://www.reddit.com/r/parrots/comments/247rd7/difference_between_green_cheek_conure_and_crimson/

... if crimson bellies really were less aggressive than GCCs in general.... then I would much prefer a crimson since I'm concerned for my tiel.... anyone else have any advice on this? Thanks!

Our local breeder (also Tiki's breeder) has CBC babies right now. I know she ships within Canada but not sure about US. (And don't know what your thoughts are on shipping either... Personally I would think it is too traumatic, but I know lots of people do it.)

Her website is birdieswith attitude.com.

Thanks for the link :)

Wow, I see that crimsons are indeed more expensive than GCCs. Why is this? I guess perhaps because they can get away with charging more for more "unique" types. I reside in Palm Beach, Fl.... so I don't know if I would have the bird shipped from Canada as that is quite a distance! (the shipping would cost an arm and a leg).... I'm checking out that website...

I have a GCC and a CBC, and my GCC (Jax) is SO much louder than my CBC (Phoe).
Phoe is more aggressive than Jax, though. He doesn't attack him, just chases him when Jax flies over to his cage. Phoe does love to hang out on my finch flight and leaves them alone, and they ignore him.
They are both great guys, either one would be a good choice:)

So it seems I should not focus on getting a CBC over a GCC since it really just boils down to each bird's unique personalty.

Since I had my mind set on getting a normal GCC, I guess I'm going to continue heading in that direction.... and hope for the best LOL

I still question whether a female GCC would be more prone to bond with my male tiel than a male GCC.... to me it just feels like 2 males "together" are a bad combo... even if it is a different species of bird... I have no idea.... they won't be in the sme cage of course... but I just feel like 2 boys are less likely to bond? I know it's unlikely my tiel will bond with a GCC... but you know what I mean... but I would LOVE it if my tiel and the GCC actually liked each other.

Yup, got that right hehe ;)

I just clicked the bird breeders link... checking it out. I was told though that i missed "the season" and I will have to wait few months before weaned GCCs are available again I have been having great difficulties finding any right now.
