Parrots
Chika, my green cheek conure. She is my first bird.
So I have had my green cheek conure for a little over a year now and I absolutely adore her. She is wonderful! :) We recently went on vacation for 2 weeks and she stayed with a friend who has 2 birds and she apparently really enjoyed being with other birds, and I certainly wouldn't mind another parrot ;) I have looked up rescues near me and there aren't any within a 3 hour drive and I don't have a license and my parents won't drive me that far. There is a 5 year old cockatiel 30 minutes away that is a possibility.... Anyways, here are my criteria.
- the bird itself must be under $200
- it should be similar size to a GCC
- low to moderate noise level
- I know this depends on the bird, but I'd love a comical bird

I would also love for him/her to get along with my conure, but I know that depends on their personalities... Some species I like are parrotlets (I have heard that they are aggressive with other birds, but also that they get along fine with other birds...), cockatiels, and lovebirds.
Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

A cockatiel or lovebird, or buddy would be great! They are inexpensive, like head scratches, and are smart and funny :). If you look at that cockatiel, just keep in mind that when people are giving away birds they often come with "baggage" r behavior problems. Just be sure to ask why they are giving him up. Also you might like a linnie, princess of whales parakeet, or even a mousebird, they are more exotic and still ave great let qualities. Good luck with your decision and hoped I helped :)!

Second vote for a linnie. They are pretty easy going as far as parrots go. Nevermind the two of mine are attacking my remote control and mouse at the moment.

I love linnies! They are so cute! I would get three if I knew of a local breeder who sold them, but I have never heard of anyone near me who sells them... :(

I think a cockatiel could be a good choice for you. :)

I know craigslist can be sketchy, but check there to see if a rehome is available. You can also check with your local pet store as they often get request and inquiries about birdie homes. Good for you for looking into a rescue. Take your time, the perfect bird will present itself. Cockatiels are great due to their amicability. Lovebirds can be very aggressive so I would not choose them for a companion for another bird. My Lovie tries to attack my B and G.

I have found that out of our five birds the Quaker is the funniest, Not too loud, and gets along with the other birds for the most part. I think with any bird you are going to have to play a balancing game of emotions and bonding behavior. For us it seams that our birds have bonded with us and then we teach them to tolerate each other by introducing the new bird to the flock and teaching the current flock members to accept and tolerate the new addition. This is done simply by spending time with them together and when they argue with each other put the aggressor back on his cage for 1 minute while you give attention to the other. Don't use treats at the beginning of this process as it will only cause problems.

There is a linnie forum if you search for it on google. Very nice, helpful people might be able to help you find a breeder. Linnies are totally worth the search:)

i think the forum you are talking about is talk linnies - i'm not on it but i have seen it a few times

First off, where are you located? Secondly, you can try posting in our classifieds for your area looking for a bird. You will be surprised at the responses you may get.

I would highly recommend a Senegal for fairly low to moderate noise level and for being a total clown. Also an Indian Ring Neck would fit the bill as well. Check out Craigslist and ebay classifieds if your located in the US, there are birds listed on there all the time. Lastly, check rescue centers or shelters.

a Flying Fox, has anyone said that already? Go really exotic. ;)

my indian ring neck is pretty loud - not often screaming (which makes my ears ring) but talking and 'singing' on the top of his voice quite a bit
