Sorry that your Thread had gotten missed, sadly it does happen from time to time. With my Post, it will bump your Thread back-up on the Board and one of our Mac Pros will chime in!
If you are just starting, commonly beginning with white pine trim wood bits that provide less resistants to your Mac chewing it. As the joy of chewing increases, the size of the bits increase as does the strength of the provided wood, as they commonly move to white pine construction lumber.
Assure that you never provide treated lumber as it is poisonous!

I don’t have a macaw but I know several people whose macaws love shredding untreated 2x4 boards in any size and they save a lot of money by always having a few of those around in addition to the more traditional toys.
My macaw isn’t a wood fan. Neither is my mothers macaw.
Mine likes cardboard to shred & piñata type toys to shred & napkins or old paper towel rolls. He will also throw around metal bowls & beat up soft baby toys or plastic bottles. He will also bounce around with a towel like a weirdo.
My mothers macaw likes harder baby toys that have the rattle sound to shake & shredder stuff too.
I keep a wood toy in my guys cage but he has had the same one for 3 yrs now & it’s still mostly intact haha.
The macaw I just helped with is a wood nut. And destroyed the wood toy I put in his cage by the time he went back home. I told his owner untreated pine 2x4s will be her bank accounts best friend:18:
You should tell her that most box DIY stores have a wood scrap pile, mostly ends from custom cuts of lumber. If she tells them they are for her Macaw, they might even give the stuff to her, it saves them having to take up dumpster space.
