Alexandrine Ringneck,
about to be getting a Jardine's
Hey guys, I was wondering what to line my Java stand with. Because the tree base is in the center, it makes it hard for paper to fit correctly in the base. I thought about shredding newspaper, but then I'm worried that it'll blow off when my bird flies from the stand. I'm thinking about using a little bit of tape on the bottom of paper, but was wondering if anyone had a better idea.

I have two Java stands and I simply line magazine sized pieces of newspaper all around. Then as needed I just throw away the soiled pieces. It's simple and works.

I know what you are talking about Khaiqha I had/have the same issue with Kippy's Java stand!! It is so frustrating! At first I just folded or ripped newspaper to fit the space, but honestly that was a huge pain!! Now I use this stuff and it works great, and I waste less since I can leave it for 3 or so days before changing it because it really does not stink! I still use news paper in her cage so I can monitor her poop, but I use the bedding in her Java stand!

I use newspaper on my bird's two bases too.....after I tried a cellulose bedding, I was not enthused with the dust factor it created...can't speak about the pelted version - never used it.....

What about (playground) sand? Combine it with a sand scooper (instead of a kitty litter scooper) and scoop/clean as needed?

Never used the stuff myself but that was the first thought that came to mind. (actually tempted to in one of my cages!) I do imagine that sand will end up on the floors, and it will have to be vacuumed/swept up. It is used in aviaries but not commonly inside, and it may have a problem if it ever gets wet and doesn't dry properly.

I plan on using newspaper to be consistent with indicating where he is supposed to poop. Potty training is another thread. But, this issue is one I've thought about for the playgym I will get soon. If it's based on a tree, put the main trunk in one corner and have it bent around so all the stuff hangs over the pan. Or, start with a metal playgym that has places to add stuff. I could mount a branch on the wall!

I use newspaper. It is big enough to lay four full sheets in each corner then I teepee the trunk with folded newspaper. Remove and replace top layers as needed.

Lpolliard,

Great stand. I want one! I don't think I've seen one that big, on rollers, and so perfectly layed out branch wise. It's beautiful as well as functional.

I use newspaper or non-adhesive shelf liner. The shelf liner is almost... rubbery? in texture. I cut it to fit the base and then rinse it off daily. It cleans well with soapy water or a mild disinfectant (I use F10) solution. I like that it's reusable and I'm not constantly throwing out more newspaper than I already do!

I found it on CL for $125. I didn't even offer less. Just put it on my truck and ran.

I have a cloth puppy pad (washable and reusable) that I use on mine... I cut a slit and a round spot for the base of the tree (like a christmas tree skirt) and then every day I rinse it and let it hang outside to dry (I made 2) then every other day I run it in the washing machine on hot water with any dirty towels that I have used for my birds training baths or other bird things.

I use Christmas wrapping paper (bought a HEAP of it dirt cheap on clearance after Chrismas). The wrapping paper is the perfect width. I just cut the length needed, fold loosely into quarters & cut a little quarter-circle out of the folded corner, unfold (paper now has circle cut out in the middle for the tree trunk), cut slit through one side to the centre hole & pop it into the base of the stand. Sounds like a lot of messing around, but takes no time at all really & works perfectly.
