She was purchased by my sister at a "discount" as a baby, she was unbanded and unsexed, and at the same time they purchased an african grey with no toes at all on either foot, (needless to say it was a bad breeder). Shes about two now, she's had a rough start, i kidnapped her after i found her locked in a dark room covered 24-7 and a bald eye because no one would bother keeping it clean. I say special ed, but we're not sure if it's part of her previous "torture" or a genetic defect. She has two toenails, that never get past the edge of her toes on one foot, she's a little slow, and probably the only sun conure that doesn't make loud noises regularly and gets along famously with her "mate" cockatiel. I hear her squawk maybe once or twice a day and thats only if i walk by without saying hello. Her left eye has always been watery, it doesn't seem to bother her too much but, it makes the feathers on the top of her eye clump together if i dont bathe her every day, misting doesn't cut it either. My question is, no one has been able to give me any clue what's causing it, if it's just an overactive tear gland or what? Is there anyting i can do to help keep it clean during the winter? She hates it when I wrap her up and wipe her eye clean with a washcloth, than i have to separate the clumped feathers with a finetooth comb. i was hoping there was an easier way for us. Her feathers are finally growing in around her eye, and i would really like to keep it that way. Any helpful advice or experience would be awesome. Thanks and sorry it sooo long.
