What the best form of disipline?

Jade has recently discovered our ceiling fans. She has decided that they are just about the coolest things ever. Not only are they just about out of everyone's reach, but they spin!

She weighs almost a full pound and will probably bend the blades which will essentially ruin the fans. These are never turned on now that we have a fully-flighted family member, but we don't want to uninstall them either.

Any suggestions to keep her off of them? Right now we take her off of them and give her a stern "no". We would never physically punish our birds or other pets so we're needing some help with this. thanks.

Try to capture her interest when on the fan with something else that she has never seen before. If you pay too much attention to the fan sitting she will only want to do it more. You could partially clip wings so birdie cannot fly up that high.

One sure fire way is to wrap some loops of duct tape sticky-side-out around a few spots on each of the blades for a few days. After landing on those a few times she'll not want to go anywhere near them.

When aversive punishments are needed it's most effective if they don't come from you. That way they are not associated with you (she'll hate the fans, not her family) AND they don't learn to get away with it when you're not watching.

AD, what a great idea! I'll definitely try that.

I've very conscious about our birds and dogs associating "good" and "bad" with us. I want them to be well-behaved but not beaten down and fearful.

My only problem is Mishka would probably remove the duct tape, and place it on MY MOUTH....... so I could be quiet for a while LoL
