I am new to the boards and have a 5 y.o. CAG. I have done a lot of reading of people feeding their birds whatever they are eating for dinner that night so my question is what kinds of foods do you include your CAG in on?
Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
But chicken, fish, pasta, veggies, beans, rice, breads, scrambled eggs, potatoes, the occasional french fry or pizza crust, my black bean chili seems to be a hit with all my birds... those are all good, and mine will basically chow down on any and all of it.
Salty has a table side ring perch, and loves to dine with the family every nite. Unfortunately (but not for us) the wife is an outstanding cook and loves to make all sorts of exotic and challenging dishes and we cant always be sure the food is bird safe. So she makes sure that there is a bowl of Saltys fav veggies at hand. We feel that table scraps from people food is not the best thing for parrots. I mean, where in the jungle would a parrot find Bernaise sauce, corned beef, panko bread crumbs or seven bean salad? One exception .. sweet 'taters. Both Salty and I would sell our souls for a nice ripe yam !
Buzz doesn't like many people foods except rice, pork and pork bones. He tends to taste and throw veggies. He also enjoys hard boiled eggs about once a week.
Yellow-naped Amazon "Sammy"
Love birds (4)
Green-cheeked Conure "Skittles" - now, sadly gone from my life
Blue-Crowned Conure "Tequila"
African Grey "Reno" - sadly, now gone from my life
Reno loves, well, everything. Red meat, chicken (especially, chicken bones!), turkey, pork, cereal, bread, you name it - if we're eating it, he'll try to stand in the middle of your plate & race you to the finish.
We're careful to keep him secured in his cage if we're having anything that could be harmful to him (avocado, for example), or if we have company (for some strange reason, some people are put off by a large grey parrot eating off their plate - some people, eh?!).
I swear, he's more of a "garbage guts" than our food-centric dog!
Amy did a fantastic job in learning theres a bunch of strange, yummy stuff those humans eat. She taught Smokes well!
Smokey would either growl or cower in the corner when I braught in the nummy bowls. That's the first thing Amy looks for now..Giving the bowl the "hairy eyeball", mumbling in it,then hestarically laugh at it,then dive in!
Chicken legs are far more the bestest munchies for them.
Pizza, pasta wheels and sauce < Jonesy called himself saucey beak lol>

Scrambled eggs were one of Smokes favs also.
