Up until recently I had two lovebirds (male and female) until about a week ago when sadly the male died
The female seems to be doing okay and she's really benefiting from having my sisters budgie in the same room during the day when they're out of their cage together. I don't think they really like each other all that much but he's constantly trying to get in her cage and she's constantly shuffling after him to get him out and I feel like this is healthier for her because I'm keeping her mentally (and physically I guess) active.
Right now it's the holidays and I'm worried for when it finishes and I have to go back to school; the budgie doesn't live in the same room as her (I've asked my sister but she says no) and I think it's then that she'll start to get lonely and bored. So I'm thinking about maybe getting her another companion...?
I don't want to get a male lovebird, because besides all the stuff about lovebirds only ever finding one soulmate, I don't want to breed again. But at the same time, I can't get a female lovebird because then they will fight.
My thoughts are that I might get a "neutral" bird like a cockatiel or a small conure and put it in another cage, and see what happens. If they like each other, then I can move them into the one cage (as I say I'm off for the next few months so I can keep a close eye on them) but if they don't it's okay I can keep them in separate cages in the same room and I feel like just talking to each other will keep each other somewhat stimulated?
I'm not sure, as I know keeping different species in the one cage is a sort of murky topic but I'm willing to give it a try and if it doesn't work out still give the bird an amazing life anyway. I'm just looking for thoughts, opinions and advice..
