I had Parry, gcc, for about 4 mo and I got Coco, the lovebird, and two budgies about a month ago. Coco and the budgies came from the same home and became very bonded within just a few days - she is like a little momma for them. As I wrote before my quarantine failed after two weeks and I had to introduce them. Parry was very friendly with Coco at first and just observed the budgies. Later he started fighting with Coco, but quietly and barely touching beaks at all. But he fluffed up a bit and seemed angry (I stopped the fighting right away). When they are all together on a 'neutral' territory Coco becomes somewhat possessive over the food and stuff which I'm trying to discourage as well. I also always stop the fighting right away, and they know it's not allowed. Parry tried to nip the budgies a couple of times, but he was smart enough to know that I would get really mad at him for that. They can stay on the kitchen counter (the neutral place) for a long time all together, eat and chill on the wooden chunks, but once in a while they would show beaks (and look at me right away, LOL). But again, I'm not sure if they are fighting or playing a fight.
Parry can spend hours on the top of Coco's or budgies' cages and just watch them. Coco would try to nip on his feet, and once on a while they touch beaks through the bars like fighting, but it's not really intense - they mostly just observe each other. When I let Coco on the top of her cage Parry tries to approach her very gently, lowers his head like wanting scratching, but she just runs away, usually to me. (I have to say that Coco is not an ordinary lovebird character - she is very mellow, sweet and shy, never bites or shows aggression)
So what is this behavior? It's not very friendly, but not aggressive as wellā¦ Why are they showing so much interest in each other? Do you think it can get better?
Sorry for the long post, but I'm kinda puzzledā¦
