Can anyone tell me what kind of palm leaves are used in such toys like this shredder? I live in New Zealand and the postage from all the cool US bird toy shops is really high so im always on the lookout for stuff I can do myself and am wondering what kind of palms have safe leaves for drying out and making shredding toys with (obviously ill make sure they are spray-free, but I need to know what species of palm to track down first!).

Thank you in advance for any info :)

Update: im an idiot.

I was thinking about dried palm leaves as just that, an isolated object. I kind of forgot that dried palm leaves come from fresh palm leaves and fresh palm leaves come from ... palm trees. On which there is much info on the net about which ones are bird safe of not.

Duhh ><

Not to worry, we all have those moments once in a while...and those who claim they don't are lying to themselves, though I was tempted to ask what kind of dried palm fronds/leaves you had access to ! ! !

Just looking at it probably NOBODY could tell you what exact palm is it made of! :) Most palm trees are safe for birds though. I cut off my majesty palm not-so-nice-looking fronds, and my birds love hanging on them and chewing them into shreds. You could try to contact the manufacturer to find out about this one.
