What is my bird doing?

My Sun Conure makes a noise that sounds like a mixture of scrapping and a crunching sound. It sounds like it is eating but it is not. Is it mimicking the sound it makes when it eats or is this a sign of something wrong?

If so, it's a sign of being happy and relaxed.

Sounds like he's beak grinding.....parrots do this when they are content and/or when they are in the process of going to sleep.....

If you look at the inside of the upper beak, you'll see that it is ribbed, like a file,
when the bird is beak grinding, it is rubbing its lower beak on this ribbed surface, to also allow it to keep its lower beak in shape. If you see it rubbing the outside of its beak on perches or cage bars, it is keeping its upper beak in shape, It can also be removing any food that may be stuck to the outside of its beak.....

Bob, my Jenday Conure, makes those sounds. At the very least, the sounds Bob makes resemble what you're talking about. At times, the sounds resemble him crunching food stored in his beak. (It's the cutest beak ever. However I'm in love) Other times it sounds like scraping or (like puckering up) and sending kisses. Do you have plenty of toys for your bird to forage? Keep in mind that birds in the wild pick at tree bark for delicious bugs. My Bob has a dish w/little wood toys, Angry bird (cat toys) that he calls "ball with clacker", peanuts (unsalted in shell), thin shelled unsalted almonds + the list goes on. Give it a try. It is definitely beak grinding

After training at night,Mishka sits on my lap, grinding his beak. I know he is content and tired

When I shut my bedroom lights of and go to bed baby girl sits there and says in a whisper voice night and hi baby and all this chatter until I ay goodnight to her. then she goes right to her top perche and beak grinds-.-. So yeah that's what your little guy is doing.
