This afternoon was an interesting one. I learned that Kayak's favorite word is "what". I was relaxing with her reading my Nook and eating gummy bears. At one point Kayak snuggled next to me and I thought it was cute. About a minute later she climbed up onto my chest (we were laying on my bed) and gets in the way of my Nook with a gummy bear in her beak!! Normally when she has something I don't want her to have i'll say her name and hold my hand out and she'll give it to me. Today this is how the conversation went:
Kayak....
What?
Give me that.
Whaaaat?
Give me that gummy bear.
Whaaaaaaaaaat?
(at this point I went to take it and she scurried off my chest doing that funny little run birds do)
KAYAK!
WHAT!
(she was running up and down the bed making these funky noises that sounded like what, what, what, what, what)
So help me little birdie if you don't give me that gummy bear you'll be in big trouble.
Whaaaaaaat? What?

I won in the end and snatched the gummy bear from her beak after chasing her around my bed laughing because she was so darn cute. For whatever reason she will not or cannot say her name. She says what, peekaboo, I love you, and she curses. :/ she doesn't say Kayak or anything of the sort.

How cute! I can see why a gummy bear would appeal to a bird.

Very cute! Pepper is a big fan of the word "What?!" too lol

So cute........ and it's amazing how the word what fits in with almost everything
You going to have wonderful conversations with Kayak in the future

lmao hide them gummy bears!!! nut loves them! and she won't have been saying what back at me if i wanted it back lol

Rowdy says "what" sometimes, but my BC loved to say it. She would repeat it, too, and say, "what what?" Now when she asks, "what?" you need to tell her, like if she asks while you are eating something, you tell her what you're eating. Then it gets funnier, lol!

So did you get the gummy bear back?

Yes! I did but only after chasing her all over the bed. She was so cute doing that awkward little bird run with a gummy bear in her beak. She did not want to give it up! I made sure she had an appropriate treat after I got it back. Gummy bears are for humans not for adorable but rotten little birds.

Yes one time when Rowdy asked, "What?" while I was eating I said, "It's a big sandwich." Then she said back to me, "A big sandwich".

It's probably a good thing you got that gummy bear back. I bet that would make for a messy birdie! I tried giving Merlin meds using toast with peanut butter like I did with Pete and her entire beak was covered in it. It probably took me 15 minutes to clean her up again.

Con did something like that with me today as well lol. I was reading my Kindle and she dropped onto my bed and tried dragging off my Kindle! It is a first generation so heavier than she is but it was cute as heck to watch. She didn't get very far before she dropped it and made her alarm croak. There must be a pair of mating hawks in a place close by because I see them often and she scurried back to me and hid under my hair until they passed.

So Cute! Foxy has had a great effect on my junk food intake! ;) I now only snack on things that we can share because it I don't share I will at some point end up with a birdie in my plate or glass.

Yes, they do, don't they? Rowdy and I had a fight over orange slice candies a few months ago. You know the gummy ones that look like slices of orange and have sugar on them? She absolutely did not believe me when I said they weren't birdie food. I guess I can't blame her since they DO look like real oranges, at least to a bird. I had to hide in the kitchen to eat them.

:) It is very hard to explain the differance between what they can eat and not eat, especially when it looks so yummy.

Having a hysterical vision of Audrey crouched down in a dark kitchen corner, trying not to rustle the plastic while she chews her orange slice candy very quietly and praying not to hear the dreaded "whatcha doing?" from the other room. LOL
