I just ordered an aluminum window awning for my bird room. It seems that one side of the room faces the setting sun so in the afternoon, the sun blares through the window making it quite warm in the room.

So the awning will take care of that little issue quick, fast and in a hurry. I have window awnings on most of the other windows, but not on that particular one. By the way, that was a quick $200.00. Now if you add in Mac's new playstand, that's about $350.00 for the month not to mention another $65.00 on bird grooming last week. Plus I have to schedule Mac for a vet visit for his checkup within the next month. That's another $250.00-$300.00.

So for all you want to be bird owners, these are some of the little things that arise from time to time that will drain your wallet. It's not just the food & toy bills, it's those unexpected little things that come up. Take Mac's playstand for instance. I thought it was still in good useable condition until I took it outside for a thorough cleaning and found RUST. I will not allow my birds to associate with anything that has rust on it period. So out with the old and in with the new. So I wheeled both cages outside (Mac and Tiki's) for a thorough cleaning and examination. Fortunately both cages passed with flying colors or else that would have been another $200.00-$500.00+ unexpected bill.

Oh, gosh. Is it terrible of me to say that I would be thrilled if an old playstand had to be replaced?! LOL! I think it would be fun to search for another one! Granted, most people don't think it's fun to spend all that money, but... I may or may not be a shopaholic!

It really is the things you don't think of when first getting a bird... air filters, wire mesh on the windows, just general improvements for your bird that really hurt your bank account.

I'm still trying to save for a decent air filter but I just keep buying bird toys instead. ARG.

Did you order the same stand for Mac? I remember you seeing he doesn't like change so...

A new window solves that issue! :)
We just had all the windows replaced with low e glass, wonderful purchase!!!!
Only Willie and Java goes to the vet to have their nails done and I do the rest. Fortunately the other ones are easier to deal with. We spend a ton on budget for our pets period, hense the reason I work all the time.....

I spend way too much money on the pets. But I'm like jaimmorr, only I know I'm a shop-a-holic! I have a problem!!
The dog Tyson had an ear infection that cost me almost 400.00. Which was more than my visit to the emergency room!!!
Its the suprises like rusty play stands and ear infections that hurt the most!

I'm really pushing for my son to become an Avian Vet! LOL. Nothing wrong with cutting expenses right? hehe

hahahahahaha, yep, it never fails. I just got a notice in the mail this afternoon from my optimologist. It's that time of year again for the old eye checkup. I hate it. It seems like every time I go in for the eye checkup, I walk out with new glasses and shy about $400.00 from my wallet.

Yes I did. It was the very same style playstand that he used to have. I was lucky that Dr. Fosters & Smith had the very same playstand and it was on sale. So it cost me $30.00 less plus free shipping and he loves it. But of course, he doesn't know it's not the same old stand he had before. I put the new stand together and rolled the old stand outside for the trash pick up after I pet Mac to bed. So he wasn't the wiser.

HAHAHA. Hey, I'm going to school to become a vet! Not sure what I'm specializing in yet, but it's either going to be Avian or Exotics/Wildlife. Possibly Zoological. :)

My son is at UCDavis, CA. Known to be a premier veterinary school but alas, he wants to be in human medicine, dang it!

This sounds like my life.....only my pecking order of brokeness is house, kids, Dog, husband, car, appliances, sports.....I even get stuck with other people's kids and problems! Remember when you were a kid and couldn't wait to grow up? What was I thinking!

Haha! Oh no, not human medicine! Anything but that!

Hoping I can get into the 2nd best veterinary technology school in the country after I get my BA. :)

Oooops, just kidding. It used to be the 2nd best, but apparently not anymore. :( Anyway, it's still in the top 10! LOL
