Hi everyone!

I have a question about a vocalization my female cockatiel, Iggy, is making. Now, I'm used to her flock calling screams when I get home, or when I leave the room. Its loud, but not bad. This noise is similar but its 5x louder, ear piercing.

Initially I thought it was fear, I was playing with her and lowered her into a box; that was the first time I heard her make that noise. She stopped as soon as I took her out. (I promise I wasn't being mean, she gets in boxes on her own haha)

My mother has a mini TV on her makeup counter, and Iggy will get behind it and make this noise. The only thing I can connect this with is small spaces, but she's never made it in her carrier, other boxes, or enclosed corners.

What in the world is this?

The video does not do justice as to exactly how loud this noise is.

Sounds like a contact call, holler back you will be right back. She's just asking "hey where is everyone?"

She does this when I'm directly in front of her. Her contact call is a little different, and not as loud. I tell her I'll be back when she does that, but no matter how much I talk she doesn't stop this until she decides.

Oh then it's an I'm right here call come pick me up....basically the same thing.

Now that I think about it, she does stop when I pick her up. I just wonder why she only makes this noise in certain spots of the house...

Attention attention attention.. this place is boring put me in front of a window at least or by a radio or TV...or on a family members desk or head....

Hey, what's not entertaining about a beautiful view of a cardboard box or a toilet? Ungrateful bird. Parrots these days.

INORITE, he probably is writing santa for an I-phone.....

When I was a kid, you didn't dare even ask your parents for a flip phone. That was for high schoolers.

Below is graphic, a cockatiel with a phone addiction.

Maybe Santa will reconsider the iphone... Its either that or millet.

It makes me think of an alarm call, actually... but then, if it's that, what is she alarmed about?

That's what I thought, and that's what everyone who I've shown it to thinks. But I have absolutely no idea what could of scared her. She sits in this spot all the time and only sometimes has an issue. She climbs into boxes on her own and doesn't have an issue either. Hell, she isn't afraid of my dog, she bullies the dog out of her bed. I don't know what she's seeing or thinking she's seeing.

I thought it was an alarm call too, but if you look at her body language she doesn't look nervous, she just looks inquisitive. She's tilting her head at the camera and blinking. That doesn't look scared to me!

Then I'd be inclined to agree that it's an attention-seeking or a 'pick me up' sound. But gosh I'd probably want to change that cue to a more pleasant sound, that sound is a dead ringer for a car alarm!

That's part of what threw me off. She isn't in a defensive posture, she's straight up going "Look at me!"

She does sound like a car alarm. It's so loud it hurts my ears, I prefer cockatoo screams over it!
