I have seen lots of pictures of this but I am not sure what this behavior in my indian ringneck means or if it should be encouraged.

First Skye began to put his (or her) head IN my mouth and makes clucking noises. Now for the first 5 minutes each time I hold him he bows down, puts his head up, pins his eyes, and just clucks like crazy. During these times I can do anything that I want to him (kiss, pet, scratch). Here is a photo of what he does:

Is this mating behavior? If it is would it be more prone to males or females? I am dieing to know what he (or she is)!! at 10 months there is a definate shadow but I know females get shadows too :)

My GCC is fascinated with teeth. The closer she can be to inspect them the happier she will be. She is just overly curious. She doesnt make clucking noises or stick her butt in the air, so I dont know what to tell you. Sorry. :/

I dont think that this behavior is matter for conserne excep that he/she could bite you lol

Well, our mouths do have bacteria that can be harmful to our birds. It's best not to actually let them inside our mouths. They do seem fascinated by our mouths though. They like to watch our lips move when we talk, and see our teeth and tongues.

I have seen lots of videos and photographs of this behavior in ringnecks so it is definately common for them. LOL I just don't know what it means. If this is mating behavior I don't want to encourage it.

I know this is not aggrassive for him. It had started after he went through his "bluffing" phase. He was evil and hormonal. He bit every chance he could and wanted nothing to do with people. Now he wants to be with me again and is sweet as pie...just always going into that same stance, making the same noises, and dialating/pinning eyes.

That is the mating behavior of a female IRN. If Skyler is an adult (over 2 years) he should start to show the black & pink ring around his neck. Usually by the time they are 3 years old they have a full neck ring.

In any case Skyler is beautiful.

Skyler is only 10 months old. I have not had a DNA test done but have been thinking about it :) Thank you!

In that case he/she could be wanting to be fed. That is how baby parrots carry on when they are wanting the parents to feed them. I think it's a feeding response. Your bird is to young to practice mating behavior.

That said I wouldn't be surprised if Skyler is a hen.;)
