My GCC Has been eating an all raw food diet for a few weeks now with no pellits, I did a lot of research and I think I figured out a healthy balance of food. She seemed to be active, happy, and she's even been biting less. But today when she tried to go to the bathroom, she made several attempts with no successes, seeming constipated. And when she finally did go potty, it was very liquid. I am very concerned, I do not have an avian vet nearby, so I don't know what I should do. Please help.

Find the closest avian vet. You may need to drive several hours. Where are you located? Your bird really needs to go in right away. Poopy problems are sometimes the only warning you get.

Do you think if I took her to my breeder, they would be able to help identify the problem?

Not likely. I'm a breeder of GCCs myself. Watery poo now and then doesn't alarm me as long as it goes back to normal within an hour or two, but STRAINING to poo and not being able to is a giant red flashing warning signal and she needs to get to a vet immediately.

A breeder won't be able to do gram stains (always step one with a poo issue) or blood work or X-rays (could be an intestinal blockage) and likely won't even have a stethoscope. Anything your breeder suggests that you "try" will probably only delay medical care and put your bird in more danger. You may just need to drive several hours to a qualified vet. I know it isn't fun but that's the price we pay for keeping parrots in areas without avian vets. Trust me, it's the story of my life.

She is still very playful and active, not fluffed up or huddling on the floor. But she has been extremely violent today.

Please do take her to the CAV, parrots show little or no symptoms and then when they do it can be too late. Let us know how you get on?

As far a I can see you have three red flags, straining, liquid poop, change of behaviour.

yes those do help, thank you, am in aurora co.

I don't want to be rude or harsh, but "she isn't acting sick yet" is the phrase that leads to a lot of dead birds. I've literally rushed birds that were still acting normal to the vet only to have them die anyway. Others have been saved only because I didn't wait for them to act sick. By the time your bird starts ACTING sick, they are on death's door. Birds are completely different from mammals, and ANY warming signs need to be taken extremely seriously.

Just as one example when I have taken my 'too to the AV, I have already seen red flags and made that appointment and bless him on the way there in the car he is still singing to me. In the consultation the AV tells me that he really isnt very well at all.

The best is to catch any changes early and then they stand a good chance of recovery because they have had time for the meds to take effect.

Update: Her stool has returned to normal, and she is not struggling anymore (In fact I havnt seen her struggle since the first time this morning.) She has not eaten much of her normal food, but when I am eating she is eager to share with me. But she has been steering a lot toward wheat products, Bread, crackers, sprouted whet berries etc, I think it is a bit odd
