What carrier do you use (to take to vet)

I use "Petsfit" carrier from Amazon. I added a spiral perch inside. More expensive than this one but my Sunny loves it We go out for a drive, farmers market, fiddlehell, etc. She can meet everyone whilst feeling secure inside.

Have used traditional cat carrier for years.
Simply add a perch to the side wall and life is great!
The biggest mistake people make is to only use the carrier to go to the Vets. The end results is the Parrot quickly ties the carrier with a Vet visit and the Parrot refuses to go anywhere near the carrier.
One has to build an interest in the carrier by having a greater number of positive results of agreeing to go into the carrier.

I also use a typical cat carrier. The vet is only a twenty minute drive though. BB uses the carrier and Amy just rides on my shoulder

My guys have no interest in getting in a soft sided carrier. I've tried on several occasions. I think it's the inability to see all around them that stresses them. I'm sure time to get used to it would help, but they will jump right into a wire cage type carrier, so that's what we use. I would love for them to be comfortable in a backpack carrier for walks outside and stuff, but so far, it's a no go. At least my boy Tucker is harness trained.

I use a simple wire carrier

Mcage Two Size, Travel Collapsable Parrot Bird Carrier Cage (20"x12"x16"H, White) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00S8WK7QE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Ejv2DbB84PG55

Pak-o-bird, and add the fleece cover in the winter. Expensive but it is my all around carrier for Nike for vet trips, camping walking etc.

Pak-o-bird, or large cat carrier. But my 2 U2 just usually ride on my shoulder during the spring and summer.

Chris, that's the same one I have. Inexpensive, light weight, and the birds go right in. Perfect. When I brought Tucker home, he came with a pretty elaborate stainless steel one, as well as his enormous cage. Previous owners spent some major cash on him, and then only ever took him to the vet once. It's good now I have him and a carrier for each when I need to take them both out at the same time. :)

I will either us a small cage or a wooden carry box with a coverable mesh front on the box (the box is preferred), as this reduces stress and the birds are safer
Thanks

Love my pak-o-bird but they’re spendy.

Ok, those are seriously cool! I'm a spring/summer walker, now I'm envisioning Treble walking with me, oh my gosh! I'm going to start saving up and maybe I'll be able to get one next spring :)

I have this one from Kings Cages:

We use our pak-o-bird bird backpack for all transport (vet visits, going on walks, going on overnight trips...whatever). Prior to the backpack, we just used a small cage, like the kind you find being sold for parakeets and cockatiels at most pet stores. Just big enough our Amazon’s head didn’t hit the top or tail brush the bottom. That worked fine for years, though we vastly prefer the backpack. One thing I’ll say about carriers designed for dogs and cats is there is no second foot hold for a bird. Our bird likes to hold onto his perch with one foot and something else, like cage bars or I installed a little drawer pull in the POB for him, when we go around corners, hit the breaks, start moving etc... in the car. Doing so seems to help him stay balanced far better than just gripping his perch. Our bird also enjoys looking out the window, and I think most birds would be at least a little less frightened in the car (if that’s a concern) if they could see what is going on rather than feel motion and not know what’s happening. Just my thoughts.

The one you linked is quite popularly sold in Asia (that and bubble backpacks). I don't see many people using it though largely because it hangs a bit awkwardly (like a side tote bag, rather than a backpack).

If you're just looking to transport to the vet and back via a car, it'll do fine. Might be a bit snug and less room to move around than other options mentioned here. But if your bird doesn't panic and is ok with not dancing inside, it works.

That being said, we use a Celltei Birdie GoGo (the same brand as a Pak-o-Bird but its slightly cheaper model). We use it for more than going to the vet - hiking, cycling, and whatnot. So we like it for aspects like a good perch inside, comfortable to carry, space for a toy, attachable food/water bowls, ability to stabilise himself, good view, very breathable, etc.

If the usage will only be to and from the vet, small animal (cat etc) could be used. Add a perch and you are all set. Try make it associated with more pleasant things, though, or your parrot will learn it's not such a good thing.

All I can relate is what we use (d). We started with a soft carrier that I brought him home in. In that short trip he managed to chew thru quite a bit of it. We got a pak-o-bird after that, meed size, and wee still use it for getting into and out the house, it gets used less and less, because SALTY is harness trained now, and he loves going on trips now. IMHO, that's the best way for your bird to travel, but it takes a lot of training to get to that level of comfort. See the threads on harness training for tips on that undertaking (took us a year of every night training to get there, but so well worthit). At 5 months it is not too early to start Treble training for a harness. For right now, a small wire type cage will do fine. Keep him warm, with lots of treats , maybe a few short practice rides before the long one to the vet, practice getting in and out of it. You want to keep the stress level as low as you can.

Wow, that looks to be the gold standard for durable and secure portable carrier!

haha, I guess so. :D
I didn't know it at the time, that's the carrier I bought to bring him home. His Vet loved it and was going on about how nice it was. It folds down flat for storage, but I've never flattened it.... lol
