What are the best toys on petco.com & Are any of their foods good?

I'm getting some animal stuff from petsmart, and petco online, and I want to know if anyone buys conure food from petco, if so which? I also need to get some fun toys for the cage. I want to make the cage look really nice. Thanks!

the JW and Insight line of plastic toys might look neat but they're really cheap quality... more suited for a budgie... even a love bird could tear those things apart. Lucy made short work of hers... I think the wooden ones are pretty good quality though, i've seen a baby macaw playing with the big sun one and he seemed to like it :) Steer clear of the petsmart brand bird toys and superpet too... same poopy quality.

I'm a fan of Jungle talk toys :) I ordered a pack of them off amazon.com a few months ago and lucy is STLL playing with the one with bells! It's her favorite toy! I've had to reattach the bells twice, but that's no big deal. The plastic toys from JW splinter and crack so I'd rather have to replace a bell then extract a shard of plastic from my bird's beak :(

Mac's, PetAG, Planets Pleasures, Prevue, and Wesco toys are pretty fantastic too :)

You might wanna look into kitty toys too! I got lucy some balls with bells in them and she LOVES them :)

As mentioned in the other thread, I use Zupreem which can be found at Pet(smart|co).

I'd recommend a variety of perch sizes and textures (stone, natural wood, rope, etc). Beyond that I don't get bird 'toys' at pet stores very often. They tend to be expensive ... and not well liked. I sometimes get the cheap cat toys like a little ball with a bell in it, or a small plush toy. Often these are under a dollar, and Auggie loves them.

For other toys, the best are often just packaging: empty kleenex boxes, paper towel rolls, egg cartons ...

I like toys with leather in them, like leather strips and stuff. I have that has leather strips hanging off of it and it has wooden beads strung on the leather. I make a lot of foot toys out of string (thick string) by tying them the way you would make a lanyard. I think that's what we called them? Lanyards? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? :p You usually make them with plasticky-rubbery flat cord and there's two main methods - barrel and box... Except I make them out of string for foot toys. Hmm... shredding toys are good too.

Speaking of brands, does anyone know about "Calypso's Creations"? They make a lot of toys with thick plastic straws, most I find at Petsmart. I saw a GCC at Petsmart playing with one of them and it seemed like he liked it.

Landyard is a throw back for me. I use to make different designs, like the box, cobra, a bunch of stuff.

Also when buying toys, make sure you think about and imagine how a bird could possibly get stuck in it, get strangled, or something. There are some toys I see at Petco and Petsmart that look like plastic or rubber gears in a chain. A budgie could easily stick his head through and not be able to get it out! I think those are for bigger birds only.

I tried looking for what I was talking about, but couldn't find it on the website. Here is another chain one that I could see a bird getting stuck in. Jungle Talk Goofy Links at PETCO In person I think it's pretty small so a budgie could probably get his head stuck in one of the links. Also avoid toys with long strings or chains because a bird could accidentally tangle himself in it.

Yeah!! I've never seen cobra before, I'll have to look it up :). Have you ever made a double barrel? It's SO cool :D It looks kind of like a piece of DNA, like a double helix. Also the quadruple box just gives you a really thick box shape, and it's so solid. Ohh brings back memories hahaha. They always made my index fingers hurt though, from pulling so tight. But yeah anyway I found that they make good foot toys! You can also make a long one to hang vertically from it, and hang beads and stuff from it. I found some scraps of denim from a pair of jeans I shortened and I cut them into strips and added them to the toy as I was making it. Kind of like this =|= (equal signs are beads and denim hanging from it, absolute value sign is the main "stem," the lanyard part). There's so much you could do with it! Plus making toys is cheaper than buying them. If you can find colored string/rope and brightly colored beads they'll look more visually appealing. I only had an off-white, natural color so mine were a bit boring.

EDIT: I found the gear chain:

http://www.petco.com/product/5877/Jungle-Talk-Goofy-Links.aspx?CoreCat=MM_BirdSupplies_Toys

I've never actually heard any horror stories about it, but I like to play it safe anyway. I wouldn't buy it unless I had a large parrot. If a little budgie got his head inside a gear and barely had enough room to get it out, he might freak out and flap around madly trying to get himself free, and he could break something. It's just a toy I would stay away from.

EDIT 2: I think this is a pretty awesome shredder/chew toy! http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3559205

We called the twisted cobra the barrel. I need to get some landyard and tests my skills. Its been since elementary, age 6 and up. Yea, I know making everything is cheaper. Since I'm a newbie, it will come to me. I'm trying to get soo much things, and information while my toddler is yanking things down. I'm about to have three babies. My other animals are self sufficient and don't need as much. I will start making some stuff later. I want to start sewing things for my son, my furbabies (clothes, and warm stuff to cuddle in) as well as myself. I'm going to snag some toys at birdcages.com they have 31 dollars off $250, and I'm buying my cage there so it works out.

Wow looks like you're going to be very busy! But making things is never boring :). At least you don't have to study for impossible biology and/or calculus tests. :( I'm sure your bird will love whatever you make :). Oh and another note, don't use yarn for birds. Birds can pull pieces out of yarn and choke. String and leather are much better.

Here is a website where you can order toy parts and make up your own toys:

Toy Making Supplies

They also sell pre-made toys, but the pieces are cheaper.

I saw a conure on youtube playing bball. Too cute. Ive also saw one dancing to a chipmunks song. Head bobbin, and body moving, all of that. Too cute.

:eek::eek: How did you do it??! I can't get higher than a C on a test :(. But that was our biochem section and I never remember anything from biochem. We're doing mitosis and meiosis now, so hopefully this will bring my grade up. It's just to confusing with chromatids, chromosomes, sister chromatids, sister chromosomes, nonsister chromosomes (or is it chromatids?), homologous chromosomes, nonhomologous chromosomes (?), etc. SO MANY :(. But I think if I just spend a little more time on it I'll remember it alright :). I'm only a junior in high school and it's AP Bio. Same with calc, it's AP Calc AB and I can't seem to balance the two! And now that I know what I'm doing wrong, I don't know if it's too late and I might get kicked out of AP Calc :(. Oh well. Sorry for the diversion lol.

I didn't start yet. I did the basics first. This coming semester is when it starts. I know it will be hard as hell, but I'm a person that no matter how hard I can't give up. Might pull some hair out but won't give up. I want to work with animals, so yea.

That's awesome :). I've wanted to be a vet since I was 5 or 6 years old. Now I'm not so sure since I would hate to see so many animals suffering, even if I tried my best to cure them (I get emotional SO easily) but either way I want to go into med. Thinking about doing orthodontics ;). But I still don't want to abandon my vet dream.

Kayak has a "Calypso's Creations" toy. She plays with it occasionally. She likes to chew on straws so I figured she'd like it and it's not one of her favorites. She adores her giant bell toy and sticks her head in it and whistles as loudly as she can. I'll come home from work and hear her talking in it. As soon as I go in the bedroom she acts as though she never talked into it. She has a paper roll toy too that she likes to shred. She's not a big fan of traditional toys. I also get Zupreem food from Petsmart when I don't feel like driving to the bird store.
