Parrots
White-faced 'tiel (Cookie). Pied Budgie (Pepper).
Kookie was weaned onto seeds and ever since I found out that wasn't a healthy diet for parrots, I did my best to transition him to veggies. And then I got Vixen. She was young and more willing to try new things. Kookie and Vixen lived together and when Kookie saw Vixen eat the veggies, Kookie ate them too. He gladly ate everything as long as Vixen at it too.

But now that Vixen's passed, he's been more reluctant to eat veggies. I give the same thing as when Vixen was around but he just picks out the mong bean sprouts and doesn't eat anything else. I've decided to sprinkle seeds onto the chop to entice him to eat some (this was how I first began) but he just picks out the seed.

There isn't any other changes in his behaviour following Vixen's death he just doesn't eat veggies anymore.

I'm currently at a loss for what to do. Any advice?

Kookie may be mourning the loss of Vixen, but you can become a surrogate for sharing healthier food.

Prepare two bowls of fresh veggies/fruits, one for you and another for Kookie. Offer one bowl to Kookie and begin to eat from yours. Make a really big deal of it, bobbing your head, making "mmmm" sounds of pleasure. Birds are flock eaters, you are a member of the flock!

Thanks for the advice!

I've mixed in some sesame seeds into his chop and that seems to work a bit. He still looks for millet whenever he's out of the cage and keeps on trying to sneak into Crippi's cage (Crippi isn't on veggies yet so he has seeds). So far he has not been successful.
