I went to the bird fair today to help a breeder friend of mine to sell and give advice and such. She appreciated me talking to the customers, same with her other breeder friends as I was playing with ALL their birds. It was so much FUN with all the interaction with all different types of baby birds and people come up to me to ask questions. All was good until one of the breeder guy did something that totally made me mad....BUT it was not my place as I calmly told the people that saw what happened that it was because he was doing something that's not safe. It was a baby Ruby Macaw and he was excited to be fed so he kept jumping on the amazon cage, so I told people that's not a good thing if his foot get bit. Which that can happen! This breeder is a friend of my friend, he grabbed the baby and basically threw him into the cage under the table. He was being very forceful, I did NOT like that at all!!!! So I walked away....The baby was supposed to be weaned by now but when they sold his sibling, he quit eating on his own. I'm sorry I do not have the heart IF a baby is begging me to feed, I would not say no. I would feed it regardless no matter how long it would take me to wean even though he was supposed to be weaned. He is still pretty young. I think they rush them to be weaned so they can sell them quick. I do NOT believe in that what so ever!!!! My partner knew I was pissed to see that....When I raised babies, I do NOT ever push them to be weaned. I feed them as long as possible and even give another week to be sure they're eating on their own good before I ever let them go. Sorry about the rant, but I had to get that off my chest....IF I was just someone on the side watching, I would probably chewed him out....I know a lot of people there and this breeder would probably had me thrown out the door and I would probably embarrass my friend...It would not a easy thing to do for me to just walk away from behind that counter and I did NOT go back by him and we left shortly afterwards....

That's awful! If I were to have seen this happen I would have been grilling the guy! Petco called me to ask about the service and how the store was and I totally went off on them about how bad their store was, I got so hot that they had the corperation manager call me about it and they asked how they could change my mind on the store or if their was anything they could do better, I said they should close down. They don't like it when you talk to them like that.lol.
I don't have any problem confronting people about how they are caring for animals, of cource it helps that I'm 6'1" and I look a lot older than I really am.

I do not blame you for getting so upset Mike...... I do not know if i would have kept quiet.
Jumping on the cage, OMG, how petrified the birds must be.
Some breeder's always just think of the money, not the well being of the young babies.
When I was supposed to get Mishka, I had to wait an extra week, the breeder was not happy with his feeds (I got him at 6 weeks old) yipe in South Africa, there is no strict rules, as to age, when a baby is sold.
Thank God I managed to hand reared him correctly etc.

I am the kind of person that would be loud and clear in my feelings if I see any animal being abused. I am sorry it was a friend of yours. It would be nice if we had animal police at bird fairs. Had that bird been a human the police would have arrested him.

I wouldn't have been able to keep quiet either ! I would have ripped tht guy a new butthole !!! Sorry , but if I am 100% sure what I saw was indeed animal abuse , I would have acted on it immediately.

When your in such a condition its not a easy thing to just bite your tongue and walk away. If I had made a scene, I would look like a jerk infront of everyone I know. Like I've said if it was a different situation where I was the customer I would have told him off right then and there....

You did the right thing , it was a tough situation for you.
I usually shoot my mouth off first and deal with the consequences later .
I have learned that it's usually not the best choice , lol.
