Cockatiels - Oz & Kaila
I got a second tiel last night and spent the night and morning with her before going to school. When I got home, she wasn't in the living room anymore but in my room. With Oz. I guess I didn't stress the importance of quarantine enough when I explained it to the family before I left and it seems they thought a few hours together would cause the birds no harm (still in separate cages of course). So, they spent quite a bit of time locked in a room together so is it safe to assume that any illness she might have has already been transferred? Should I separate them again or is there just no point anymore? The cages were pretty close...

Oh no! I hate when people do things like that.

I would say keep them apart, just in case. And perhaps bring the other bird to the vet in case she picked up the illness?

If there were still in separate cages and did not share food or water bowls, still best to keep them separate. But, I would definitely take the new baby into the vet to rule out most common contagious issues. Better safe then sorry!!

If the bird had been an only bird at someone's home for a long time, chances are you are pretty safe, but even still....

Yeah, she's been an only bird pretty much all her life from what I know. What worries me is that the 'avian' vet here kinda sucks. Last time I went to see her she broke 3 of Oz's blood feathers. And pretty much did the same things the petshop does when I go for a clip. Weight him and look him over quickly. I do know of a good vet but he's 2 hours away, I find that's a lot of stress for a new birdy...

Like Jen says I would still keep them separated for the time being. Until the quarantine time is over. Just remember they can be carriers of diseases and not show until they get stressed which is from moving. I've had that happen with one in the past who lived with them for a long time but he was a carrier and when he moved in he got stressed and start to show symptoms and made my other birds sick as I start to lose them one by one. It cost me quite a bit to treat everyone!
