11 month old Senegal Parrot - 3 year old SI Eclectus
My wife and I went to the Flea Market this morning and passed by the pet section like I always do. I was looking around and low and behold, the owner/breeder had (2) 8 week old Congo African Grey's babies. So I got to pet and hold them, what a thrill it was. They were so sweet and adorable. He also had a newly hatched Grey chick that didn't even have any feathers on it. I think it was a week or so old. But not sure, I didn't ask.

Ahh- how did you resist bringing one home??? I'm sure they were absolutely enchanting!

The key word here is my WIFE was with me. She kept tugging on my sleeve saying lets go. There is plenty more to see, and the old phrase that keeps ringing in my ear "we didn't come here for a bird".

That's so young and that week old is at risk for airborne illness.
8 weeks it takes typically 12 weeks to wean a grey.
Baby birds don't carry an imune system till about 6 weeks
Well medium size birds ateaste.
I wouldn buy a grey until 12 weeks miniumum.
Selling unweaned birds should be illegal
But congrats to playing with a baby.
One day lol

I remember when my Ruby was so little that she didn't have feathers. Your wife has enourmous will power.

I couldn't have brought one home even if I had convenced my wife. They had two babies that are on 2 feedings a day and won't be weaned for probably another month. But I could have put a deposit down on one though, believe me, I asked hahahahaha. One of the 8 week chicks was sold, he only had the other one left. They were asking $800.00 + tax for a weaned bird, which ain't bad. I'm not sure how great it was for the breeder to have the two 8 week olds at the flea market. I'm sure they get all kinds of socialization, but they also come into contact with numerous amount of people and I'm sure germs.

The one that I really thought was a bad idea to bring was the week od chick, which had no feathers and couldn't even stand. It was a might cool this morning and in the lower 60's. It was in one of those clear plastic containers that they use for gerbals and small rodants. I guess they didn't want to leave it home since it requires several feedings a day.

Oh how fate can work on us. I bet you have this persons information for future contact!!

I'm there about once a month at the minimum so he knows me b y sight if nothing else. So I will be checking back with him. I may not be able to get the 8 week old chick, but I know he has the week old chick that he's hand feeding so I just have a little work to do.

Oh seeing a baby, and holding it, makes it so much harder to say No. :)
