Hello all,
I bought a lovely boy black headed caique named Charlie last Monday. So far he has been a delight. I took him to the vet a day after i brought him home and was deemed as a healthy little boy.
I weighed him for the first time today, 150g. I was wondering if that is an acceptable weight for his age (3.5months).
He eats a mixture of parrot seed, vita pellets and fruit (apple, pear) and vegetable (carrot, broccoli). For breakfast this morning he had a combination of beans and lentils. I am slowly easing him into trying new foods.
He is picky about pellets so I give him a boost of multi vitamin 2 times a week.
I would like some thoughts on the following diets of which both parties are trying to encourage me to convert Charlie.
My bird vet recommends: (basically what an eclectus eats)
- Two main meals a day with a combination of one or more: Beans, Lentils, Peas, Carrot, Sweet Potato, Cous Cous, Quinoa, White Rice, Apple and Passionfruit.
- No Pellets are to be eaten.
- A bowl of seed during the middle of the day between meals.
- A Series of 7 doses vitamins and minerals and boosters mixed in seed and water.
Pet Shop:
- Combination: Seed and Vita Pellets 50/50 Mix in bowl.
- Serving of Vegetables and Fruit.
- Vitamins not nessessary if eating enough pellets.
