I try to weigh the pretty chicken at least 2 or 3 times a week, just to make sure she is maintaining weight like she should be. I have a small kitchen scale that works really good for her weight, as it weighs in grams, but figuring out how to not only keep her on the scale, but keep her still has proven to be a challenge.

I have tried just setting her on it, but the plate on top is glass and she slides too much on it to get an accurate reading. I tried setting her in a big bowl, but she was not amused. Then I tried putting a kitchen towel on it, so she would have a better grip, but that is difficult to get to stay, and sometimes the whole thing just slides off.

Today I think I found a solution.

She likes being flipped around. I will usually flip her over, then let her rest in my hand while I "tickle tickle" her belly.

As a side note, the other day while she was in her cage and I was doing dishes, I heard her saying "tickle tickle". The only time she'll talk is when I'm in the other room, and what she is saying is getting clearer by the day.

Anyway, so I figured I'd see if she would let me set her down on the table if she was on her back, and she was fine with it. So then I set her on the scale and it worked like a charm to get her weight with her being still. Then I put her back on it for picture time, because she is adorable.

Hahaha! I love it!!! That's actually rather impressive for an ekkie.

Both of my ekkies are completely fine with being flipped onto their backs, but neither one is willing release their death grips on my finger! Lol!

My scale solution was just to cheat and get a scale with a built in perch.

She is really laid back. I can do almost anything with her.

Adorable! I wonder, if we added up all the costs of owning a parrot, if we could figure out price per pound (get it? like chicken?) LOL.

This is just so cute!

Adorable pic. I have never tried to weigh either of mine since I got them but I would notice if they felt lighter while perching on my hand...I must try and see if I can weigh them in the kitchen scales as its good to keep check on their weight from time to time...your pretty girl is sooo Cute on those scales :)

I so love this! I wish I could get my guys to stay on their backs like that for weighing.

Wow that is amazing. Shame but dont think Plum will let me do this not without being bitten anyways. Super cute, definitely deserves the tickles.

She sure is a gorgeous gal but why call her chicken? Yours curious LOL

How adorable. I play "tickle tickle" too.. the other day Gracie decided to play back & nipped/bit my stomach and then hopped away laughing saying "tickle tickle" ummm not quite the same thing Gracie but I guess I did start it lol

Guys, they make a T perch with a suction cup bottom. Perfect for weighing parrots. Ebay is your friend.

Dexmom, the answer to the price per pound... priceless. LOL

F.ing greyz.. think they are so smart... cuz they are!

Too smart ... and stubborn, argumentative, self-absorbed & demanding lol She also fibs ... I asked her today if she had made the mess on my desk her answer "No" and strolls off doing a beak drag across my desk and mumbling to herself that she wants some "corn in the bob" which is corn on the cob in Gracie lingo lol

Yep you got it! Sounds like she is definitely growing a personality. :)

That's the cutest photo I've seen in a while. So adorable. Uglow only goes on his back when he's playing and completely in the moment. As soon as he realizes he's on his back, he can't get on his feet fast enough. And then looks around to make sure nobody noticed.
