Margret-Mealy Amazon 28 (family parrot), Petri- Peach Front Conure 4, Chloe- Congo African Grey 24 and Rio- Blue Crown Conure 4 !! :D
Spring break came this past week where I was gone all week and Chloe plus the rest of my herd and flock were taken care of by my mom.

The past few months I have been spending weekends with my bf at his home instead of us staying here at mine. He owns his place, I still live at home w/parents. I usually never went to his house because I HATE driving ....everyone here drives like a bunch of retards ....for lack of better words... It's just always a hassle to get away when I have a lot of pets.

Chloes past was full of neglect and starvation. I didn't feel good about leaving her for a week even though my mom is great, but she didn't get attention like when I am there of course. So I was thinking she might like to come with me? I was in a craft store this weekend and a woman had her grey with her which got me thinking, well shoot Chloe should come with me too!

What do you all think if I bought another cage for her at my boyfriends home to take her with me on the weekends if I go up there? It's a 1.5 hour drive, I have a large carrier already. I just don't know if it would stress her out and do more harm or if she would be happy to come along with me. I know some birds have a hard time with change, but Chloe takes new toys on really well and isn't scared but I have a feeling it might be too much to have her in 2 different cages. But then I thought about if I just made a play stand for her at my boyfriends? I have access to get manzenita branches, sand them and make a really cool stand for her, I've been wanting to since I got her. And I was in Clear Lake and completely forgot to get some off my grandparents property UGHHHH!!!!

What do you all think?? I'm kinda leaning to it being a little too stressful for her and not doing it even though I would love to have her with me. I don't think being shoved into a cat carrier every weekend is a good idea on the stress levels. She is also 24 years old. I guess maybe try it once and see how she does and go from there??? She does LOVE my boyfriend. She has her own calls/squeaks that are just for him. Sigh...I am jealous.

Take her out for short rides locally, all of my birds like to ride.....if I say "go for ride" they're all squawking & ready, so when I take them, I usually just pick one up & leave, telling the others I'll be back...but if you do take her out, belt her travel cage into the back seat & in such a manner that her beak cannot get to the upholstery or it might get re-designed...I had a couple pieces of 1/4" plexiglass cut at Lowes & sanded the corners & edges so they wouldn't cut the seats, then I just strap them in behind the cage(s)...the plexi's are larger than the travel cages, so the birds cannot get an edge to try breaking off pieces.....for one trip or several short trips, I don't see why a piece of plywood would not serve the same purpose.....just make sure the cage is up so the bird can see what's going on around it.....

I would take her and see how she does, My Amazon is more stressed if I'm away. He would prefer fo be with le no matter where it is. Try it, the worse thing that can happen is you find out she prefers home.

I don't know how it would work every week trying to get her into the carrier though. I really don't handle her much, my bf and brother do since she adores them. So it would be a experience for both if us. I had my brother get her into the carrier about 9 months ago when she went in for her checkup. I think I will have to just get over it and if she wants to be with me we can figure it out and I need to stop being scared. My BCC's beak isnt much smaller and he bites the crap out of me all the time, I hate being timid.

I guess It just shows I am scared of her because I wouldn't hesitate to take my conures with me for the weekend. Petri loves Jeff.....Rio is jealous of him though. But they also have smaller beaks!

Sounds like you need to do some more work with your BCC.....but then my birds don't intimidate me, even the few times they have tried to show me their displeasure at doing something they didn't want to do.....

My BCC does need work. I got him as a rehome off craigslist and he does exactly what his last owner said "he does what he wants on his own terms" He pinches too much and I give him an earthquake on my shoulder. He was biting my neck and fingers tonight, I try tell him NO and don't pull away but he doesn't get it until I start shaking my shoulder. I am his 3rd owner and he is only 2 years old. He won't step up and is pretty much a brat. He only likes to step up onto my shoulder, he runs away from my hands. He is so sweet at times too, I still haven't figured him out.

Maybe if you can get help at first to get her in the carrier it might be something she looks forward to. If that works then its a positive all the way around.

Thank you all, I just put Chloe to bed, she tried many times to waddle off her play top on the cage. I think she might like adventure since she always tries to visit the bunnies. I think give it a try and if she's scared then I won't do it again and I do need to spend more time with her and my bcc ....my little peach is a doll. You know its a lot of work adopting birds that other people have ruined. "ruined"

You might want to read up on clicker training & give that a try.....you realize that if a parrot gets the idea that something you're doing seems like a game, it's almost impossible to change their mind afterwards with just cursory tries/training.....
