As we all know, bird toys are expensive to buy, so many of us make our own.
We Mods thought it would be nice to have a thread where everyone can show off their toys, and include what parts you used.
I think we are all needing new ideas at some point, and this would be a great way to learn to make some different toys for our birds.

We do want to make sure that all parts used are safe, so please don't feel bad if someone has concerns about a part.
That's how we all learn.

So please share anything you make...toys, foot toys, foraging opportunities...anything that keeps your bird occupied.
It doesn't have to be anything fancy, as long as your bird likes it that is all that matters.

I may as well start:)

This is a foot toy we made for my bigger birds. It is a piece of pine wood with slices cut on both sides, and I used food grade food colouring and a small brush to paint the wood. It has a hole drilled through the middle with vegetable tanned leather run through it and knotted on both ends.

This is a foot toy for my medium sized birds.
It is a Chinese finger trap stuffed with paper shred, with a bamboo coffee stirrer running through it and a piece of cardboard with a slice of pine wood on each side of it at each end. In the centre is a vine ring around a piece of natural Loofah that I dyed with food colouring.

And this is a toy for my little guys. I used acid-free paper dyed with food grade food colouring, cardboard filled with paper shred, thin slices of pine wood, Pony beads and 2 Balsa letters strung on sisal rope.

I use millet holder metal ones and plastic ones, to stuff Shreded paper, popcorn, or veggies in
I have several of those floating around, thank you for the idea! Awesome use of them:)

I'm really looking forward to seeing what folks come up with. I'm always appreciative of new ideas, mostly because stuff that I make is usually pretty basic, often with leftover parts that get torn off of other toys. Once in a great while, I come up with something creative, but I'm more often shopping the clearance bins for pre-made ones. This is giving me some much needed inspiration :)

If you look closely that green ball with holes is great to fill, I usually do popcorn. It was full but she ate it all. On the shelf is a pink and clear dollars store box with drawers they can pull out, think I had broccoli in them. But I put different stuff in there and they easily learned to pull out drawer to find treats or toys

I love EASY toys.

Unfortunately I don't have the patience for those beautiful creations some people make. But that's ok. My birds can't tell me if they think their toys are ugly. :ROFLMAO:

Here are some of mine.

1. Hol-ee roller toy stuffed with paper shred. Great for hiding foraging treats in.

2. Skewer toy. I LOVE these. They're SO easy to put together and I like that I can put things on it that I know my bird likes. This one has paper tickets, wooden spoons, cardboard pieces, balsa slats and little sola coins for spacers.

3. Treat Cage. My all time favorite. I stuff lots of shreddables in them, hide foraging treats in them and if a toy gets mostly used up I cut off any pieces that are left and throw them in there. Also great for foot toys that your parrot doesn't use/like.

4. This is a yucca log for bunnies. I hid treats in the holes and then lightly pounded in the kabob circles.

This is a playground that my husband built for my Ekkie (no I don’t shove my ekkie in the closet we just moved so everything is everywhere). We used PVC piping, and vet wrap. We also screwed in a few hooks to hang toys, and the swing. It costed maybe $20. It was easy, and my Ekkie loves to climb all around this playground. I know that this post was for homemade toys not a playground but just encase someone wants something fairly easy, and cheap to make.

All your toys are great! Unfortunately I completely suck at DIY, but that's ok, because just a few scraps of toilet paper will last 10-20 minutes :)

I thought I'd add another toy to bump the thread:)

Both my smaller birds (Lovebirds & Conures) and larger birds (Pionus, Amazons, Greys) went to town on this.
I used 12 strands of Sisal rope hung from a wood base, 76 pine wood slices (dyed with food grade food colours), pony beads and Balsa letters at the bottom.

I should be getting my 2 conures at the end of March or early April ,so in the mean time I have made about 14 toys for them. These are just a few that I've made.

You and Terry have skills!!
Lucky conures! Ohhh the anticipation.

Caution with the metal ring you attached plastic chain to basket. Beak and toes can get caught
