- We are looking for a bird for our family. It's very much like we are pregnant and waiting for the day the new addition comes to the family!
We have finally decided what we are going to do
We started humming and ha-ing over yellow naped amazons or spectacled. We were going to pick the yn.
In the meantime we kept searching for parrots needing homes. We came close a couple times to getting macaws, and each time we got more excited. Finally after much debate, we decided as new large parrot owners we wanted babies. Not rescues. Rescues can come later, once we get the big bird thing down.
The breeder in my town I have become friends with, and a few weeks ago he excitedly told me the spectacled amazons were sitting on eggs. I believe they should be hatching in the next week or two!
We are first in line, and this will be our first baby!
We have also decided to go ahead with a macaw, and have chosen to get a blue and gold. I spoke with a breeder last week. She's not sure if it will work out this year. Last year the eggs weren't viable, and this is a new pair. But we will be keeping in touch. She puts the breeder boxes in the cages between January and March and she will let me know when she does. She hand raises before they open their eyes, to imprint them.so she has to take time off work to do this.
We are very excited! Now our wait is on and we are exploring and setting up the bird area!
