Lukah- Sun Conure, 10 months old!
Hey, so I was thinking about the water I give Lukah and I wanted to see what all of you guys do.

I typically give Lukah water filtered through my Britta. This removes some particles and stuff but it also, I just found out, adds more fluoride to the water. Is this okay? What do you guys do? Is tap water better? Should I be boiling my water? I read online boiling doesn't actually do much.

Thanks in advance! :)

I give Rosie and Kenji filtered water that comes out of the fridge, never the tap.
If your ever worried about your water quality go with bottled spring water like arrowhead.

I give Prissy the filtered water from my kitchen sink.

We have a reverse osmosis system. My birds get that water, and I also use it to make nectar for the hummingbirds outside.

Hi kellie! I also give Kiwi water from my Britta filter. I bought a small cosmetic spray bottle from the drugstore and filled it with apple cider vinegar. After washing her bowl out, i give it one spritz of ACV and then fill it up. It's a very small bowl, but she never drinks it all up..she only sips - http://i.pgcdn.com/pi/78/81/11/788111144_125.jpg

What is the apple cider vinegar for? I put it in my dogs water but never thought about putting it in Prissy's water. For the dogs it is to help with the urine smell bc they go on Potty pads. They are too small to go outside (3lbs and 4
lbs) too many predators out there!!!

We get the big filtered Sparkletts water bottles delivered and Paco only gets water from those. Are you sure the Britta filters add fluoride though? From my understanding they use a carbon filter that removes some impurities / chemicals but does not remove the fluoride. I would definitely use that for Lukah rather than straight tap. Boiling works for killing microbes, but doesn't remove any chemicals.

From Britta's website:
In a Brita® Pitcher filter, activated carbon and ion exchange resin work together to filter out the following impurities, leaving you with healthier6, great-tasting drinking water: The Carbon reduces Chlorine. Ion Exchange Resin reduces metals: Copper, Cadmium, Mercury (health contaminants) & Zinc (metallic taste).

In a Brita® Faucet filter, there is a two-step process. When you turn on your tap, water first passes through a non-woven screen around the filter to trap sediment. Then, the water then flows through a compressed block of carbon and zeolite, reducing chlorine (for taste and odor) and lead.

Here's an article that explains a bit. I put it in my dogs water too! :) Except he gets two spritzes instead of one!

In the suburbs I have a reverse osmosis system but when I move to the city im not sure what to do. We have a PUR water filter which is probably better than tapwater.

My birds get reverse osmosis water. I thought it was just filtered water for a long while, not realizing it was reverse osmosis water!
